I've had this machine for 2 months and I've been using it daily.

I bought it new in box as a close out from Go vacuum on eBay ($201.87 inc shipping).

I did have to run a bead of RTV sealant along the edge of the chute exiting the fan chamber toward the bag to address a dust leak that wasn't fixed by replacing the fan cover gasket.

I also switched to the Koblenz clear rd type belt, swapped out the 6 position height adjuster for an 8 position adjuster, and I replaced the bulb with a LED version.

Your Sanitaire is basically the same design as the “tried and true” classic “fan-first” upright created by the Eureka Williams company way back in 1974. In Consumer Reports tests of that year, Eureka’s Model 2042 (almost identical to your Sanitaire) was the top rated upright due to its excellent cleaning of deep pile carpets. It was also tagged as a “Best Buy” due to its relatively low cost. The second upright in the rankings was a more deluxe version (Model 2082) featuring Eureka’s “Rugulator” height adjuster and Cordaway cord reel. Both of these Eurekas also featured their famous aluminum “Vibra-Groomer” brush roll which is almost identical to the brush roll on your Sanitaire except it had 2 solid steel beater bars along with two replaceable brush strips.

The great performance of your contemporary Sanitaire is a tribute to the excellent design of a classic American Eureka domestic upright. Unfortunately, Sanitaire no longer offers these uprights with headlights. In recent years, Eureka was sold to the Chinese company Midea, but the Sanitaire division was sold to the American Bissell company. It’s kind of nice knowing that this classic Eureka vacuum design has remained in the hands of another traditional American floor care company.

Hey

I noticed your brush roll. The vibra groomer 2 is 15.88 on Amazon and it is a much better brush roll. The torque is t15 and t25. That is for entire vacuum.
Where the bag assembly screws on to vacuum exhaust port. I used hose clamps to ensure bag doesn't come loose.
I would suggest vibra groomer 2. The is solid and the brush roll makes even better.

Keeping the VGI

I had a Sanitaire S645 and it had the VGII brush roll. I prefer the VGI on my carpets. The 4 rows of bristles on the VGI do a better job getting the pet hair for me compared to the VGII brush roll with only 2 rows of bristles and the beater sections.

Back in 1985, I had a Eureka upright with the 5 amp motor and traded it in for the model with the 7 amp in 1991. After that, I had a couple of panasonic bypass vacuums and one kenmore canister. I'm back to this "Eureka" style now since 2012 when I picked up a Sanitaire S645. I would still have the S645, except that the handle grip was aggravating my carpal tunnel symptoms. The "gas-pump" style grip of the S675 is the entire reason that I bought it. The S645 lives with another family member now.

I also like the ball bearing design of the VGI vibragroomer brush roll vs the sleeve bearings in the VGII unit. It's just my personal preference.

Hi Jenny

I watched your video and I'm surprised you didn't like the Enviro-Care hepa bags. Bill at VacLab has tested them and he says they have similar performance to OEM bags. Aside from their construction, I was wondering if you've noticed any difference when you tried them on your machine.

The one time I used it was at my in-laws house. I was pre-vacuuming before cleaning their carpet with the extractor. My mother-in-law asked me if my sanitaire picked up much dirt, so I took the bag off the machine and looked inside. Not only was there a good amount of dirt, but for some reason, the thin, inner filtration bag was shredded. Keep in mind that my mother-in-law is a very neat person, no pets, and she vacuumed with her Dyson just before I showed up, so the only thing in the bag was a good amount of household dust- no chunky debris of any sort. My conclusion is that the inner bag is probably not doing a great job of filtering if it's in shreds. Maybe the Kirby version of this bag is better, but I will never by these bags again at ST bags for my Sanitaire.

I prefer bristles on vg2.
The vacuum bags for Kirby are good put again not on par with Kirby oem.

The Envirocare Bags Were Paper

So the paper shredded apparently over time. The HEPA Envirocare bags I reviewed were CLOTH, not paper.

The envirocare bags that I discussed in the video are "micro filtration". They are paper on the outside and have some things, delicate, inner liner that turned to shreds after one vacuum session that lasted less than 30 minutes.

I enjoyed the review. That is a deluxe Sanitaire.

My S661 is very similar, but it does not have the switch on the handle nor the removable fan chamber. I, too, have noticed that hair does not wrap around the roller, however I have the VGII. Thanks for the tip about the Koblenz belt. I really want to give that and the ST fill tube a try on mine.
