having lived in america for 22 years i grew up watching the classic sit coms. i was told the vintage vac that is always in the background on sanford and son was a hoover. i think maybe it was a kenmore. not sure.
In the grand scheme of things who really cares you fish eyed fool! Just kidding. Red Fox was a comedic genius and that is still one great and clever show! I really never paid any attention to the before mentioned vacuum, because, I guess for all that junk in the way. Sensory overload and hidden in plain sight you can say. Great show, great thread!
You will be pleased to know that in Steptoe & Son (the series on which Sanford and son was based) the used a Hoover Junior 119 - although by the state of the set, not very often
There was frequently an old vac in the cluttered living room as a prop. It stood back against the wall opposite from camera view. I haven't watched the show in a long time, but it seems it was an old Kenmore upright. Not the Bug-Eye but one of about that vintage.
hi charles. i figured it was a kenmore. the handle grip was simmilar to hoovers later models when the thick rubber grip was no longer used. also the handle bail was slightly different as well as the coffee can motor.
if someone had told me it was indeed a hoover model of some sort i would have figured they removed all badges and nameplates as they never seemed to advertise name brand products on these shows. fred and bubba were always drinking out of a white and red beer can. no name on can. it simply said beer.
