Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get off a rusted belt pulley from a Convertible? I've already tried repeated sprayings of WD-40 as well as soaking it in CLR overnight to no avail. Any help would be much appreciated.

Take the top of the motor apart and get a soft rag. Hold the armature carefuly with the rag and use a vice on the bottom of motor ( the pully)

Remove the motor from the machine completely. Next remove both carbon brushes, and then the upper bearing assembly. Remove armature cooling fan. Remove the four flat head screws that hold the upper part on the motor on. Remove upper part of motor. Get yourself a pair of lock pliers. You will see a small “U” notch on the left side of the lower part of the motor plastic. Insert a flat screwdriver there to hold the armature still. Make sure the screwdriver goes into the slot of the armature completely. Put the lock pliers on the belt pulley flat with the fan, hold the screwdriver tight, and then turn the pulley toward the right. Remember these pulleys are reverse threaded so rightly is loose and lefty is tight this time only. Any questions ask and I will be glad to help.

Thanks for the advice. I managed to get the old pulley off. I cleaned everything up, replaced the lower and upper bearings. However, it looks like I'm going to have to take it to a shop for service. The armature is rubbing up against the field and I'm not sure how to go about properly undercutting the mica so it sounds absolutely awful right now. I'm not quite sure how that happens in the first place. Overheating perhaps?
