Rug Doctor: I AM AMAZED!

Well, I finally rented a Rug Doctor, and I thank all of you guys who suggested it. For two years now I have been looking for a good carpet cleaner with no success. My mom would not let me get a Rug Doctor. But I got her to do it!

My mom has always been disgusted by the Rug Doctors at Safeway after seeing the dirty filters installed in them. I'm sure the supermarket is the first place people think of going to rent one. So I understand. But today my grandfather and I went to a new Ace Hardware. So I go to look at the Rug Doctors and all of the filters and clean! We went home with a few screws, but an hour later I convinced my mom to rent the Rug Doctor.

For the last 2 weeks I have been seriously considering buying a Hoover Steamvac. Our carpet is gross and our couch is worse. I was starting to count my cash. I had used every thing from Dyson Zorb to Woolite to my Proheat. Nothing could do it.

But then comes the Rug Doctor! I have only done a couple passes but I am blown-away. The carpet has not looked this good senice we moved in eight years ago, and the carpet is only slightly damp! My Bissell could never do this!

I still might get a Hoover to keep to clean, but to deep-clean I will use the Rud Doctor!

Like the Rug doctor machine as shown in the film clips.The new model seems to be an "upright" machine-the same idea as an upright vacuum.the older one shown in the other picture is more like a "canister" version-the hose with the "powernozzle" to scrub the carpet or floor.Like the idea of the oscillating brush rather than rotating-would better get both sides of the carpet nap.Was that new carpet shown in the demo clip-the spent cleaner from the pickup tank is clean!On my carpet-since its 35 yrs old-bet would be deep brown!And since you own the machine-you can use it when you need to-or its right there in case of a spill "emergency"and the machine has been used only on YOUR floor and no one eleses.

Be careful buying used rental machines. The Rug-Doctor website states that they . . .do not supply parts and will not support a previous rental machine.

The EDIC Galaxy will have about 35% more suction, 135 inches of lift vs 101, also, the Galaxy can be bought with either a 50 or 100 psi pump, vs about 28 for the rug doctor. Also, the Galaxy has as an optional 1200 watt external heater.

If you're considering moving up from the Rug Doctor to the EDIC, another option would be www.crusadermfg.com Look at their 5 gallon unit with two, two stage motors producing 150 lift. Teamed up with an external heater, this unit performs exceptionally well to (speaking from experience).

The EDIC and Crusader are built for heavy use and performance while still having a relatively compact size. Definitely worth the extra dollars. If money is tight, the Rug Doctor is probably the better choice, far better bet than any Bissell, Royal, or Hoover which are useless when it comes to carpet extracting.

Rug Doctor: I am amazed

Now what I am amazed at it how would you get a carpet dirty enough to need equipment like this in a home situation? These look like pretty heavy duty machines.
I don't remember ever seeing any RUG DOCTORS in my area although I think I saw part of an infomercial.
How much do they weigh?

Don't you worry, it is possible! The last time our carpet was cleaned professionally was around 2005. At one point the carpet went though 4 pets and 5 people. Now there is 3 pets, but is slept on literally by the dogs almost all day. I cleaned the carpet with a Bissell about 4 times and it never looked good. The Rug Doctor solved this, although it might need a good truck-mount cleaning if we sell the house.

I have seen carpet WAY dirtier than mine, but yes, we do need a Rug Doctor to clean this thing. And I'm sure the Rug Doctor is too little for some carpets.

You should probably start a new thread on your topic, but I will respond to your comment.

One thing I have noticed about the Rotovac is that alot of videos featuring the product is used with a portable extractor, and the results are very impressive. I doubt your carpets will be as dirty as these videos. I will post a link to show you.

A truck mounted extractor will be many thousands of dollars. The Rotovac is about $1,500. Are you willing to spend that money when you can get a $1000 Sanitaire portable extractor that includes a wand?

Remember that the Rotovac is sold to help people with their carpet cleaning business. It gets the job done faster so they can move on to the next job. I don't think owning one for home is a necessity. Unless you are thinking about starting a business.

I would love to hear what you buy and see before-and-after pictures of the carpet. I'm very interested in carpet cleaning.

Back to Rug Doctor

Based on comments on this site, we rented a Rug Doctor for 24 hours last weekend. 41 bucks including cleaning solution from our local Kroger.
It was a terrific machine. We had the carpet professionally cleaned a few years ago, and I had to go around on my hands and knees with a scrub brush, spot cleaner, and a wet-dry vac to finish the job. This time, the Rug Doctor did a much better job, for a tenth of the price. I used hot water and half of the recommended amount of detergent. It took several passes with plain water to get all the detergent out of the carpet, but the carpet hasn't looked this good in years. Thanks for recommending it, those of you who did so. We would definitely rent a RugDoctor again.

Rug Doctor Mighty Pro

I think I'll buy one soon, when I have enough $ saved. Right now I dont have time or money to spend on a Rug Doctor; but when I do get one, I'll be washing carpets like the pros (cleaning carpets for living)
