I think they had on different years. The 2 I have one has port one doesn't. I believe if you take off bag opposite of the fan impellor is oil port.
Either way oil it.
Sometimes I try to do something and nerves and frustration prevent what your working on. I'd imagine this got you frazzled but when nerves are settled mind isn't clouded and it just works. If I get frazzled I just wait until later.
Glad you got it working. These hand vacs are sweet.

Sometimes I try to plug in a USB plug, get it wrong, turn it 180 degrees, get it wrong again, turn it back around, and then it goes in. Despite only having two sides lol

I've found lots of things are fumbly like that. Part of the reason I suggested measuring it. Sometimes if something doesn't fit, I'll measure it, find it identical, and THEN it'll fit. Don't ask how that works. One of life's mysteries.

I love my 501, perfect for getting dog hair off the couch and vacuuming stairs. I think you are right, I wanted the fan to fit and I wanted to use it so bad that I was doing something stupid wrong.
