Royal 501

Friend gave me this Royal 501 a few weeks back when he was teaching me how to buff Kirbys at his shop. He's closing the store down and said he didn't really have a need for it so asked if I wanted it. Was able to locate a bag for it and last night he let me use his buffer and buffed the nozzle. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Especially since he asked me how I was buffing those parts because he thought I was doing better than he was. Eventually plan on getting my own buffer and doing some buffing for fun but that's not going to be for a while as I don't have a good space to buff right now. Will post a few more pics as I make some more progress on this little project.

Here's a before buffing and after buffing pic. I'd like to take it to Odowd's when I'm all said and done with this machine and see what he thinks about how well I did since I've been told he's one of the masters of vacuum buffing.

Your Royal 501 was built September 1989.

Thanks again for the bag! I just got it today and have all ready washed it in the bathtub and it's now drying.

If I actually owned the buffing equipment I used I would be happy to do yours but it belongs to my friend and we're getting close to the point where we're going to tear down the buffing booth so we can get it out of the store and into his uhaul (he's closing down his kirby store and moving back home). I eventually do hope to get my own buffing equipment sometime though I just don't know when that will be due to not having an area I can buff in and not have to worry about the mess that thing makes.

Glad you got the bag. I actually got inspired and sanded and buffed my prince out. I also did my g6 d80 and my 1930 royal pay geier hand vacuum.
I'd say where the trim on front goes the red trim use steel wool and it will take the spots off.
I ordered paper bags for it so I don't ruin bag. I'll try cleaning in my tub good idea.
The prince has a hose attachment. The belt comers off and hose clips on opening.
If you look around the dirt devil kit is universal. I believe 1 of my 2 princes has plastic fan. The other has metal.
I'd maybe get bags for it. The gasket maybe replace or fix it.
Good luck on the rest of it. It's a real good one to start off with.
Make sure to oil the 2 ports and grease bearings.
I may have my prince done soon. I just need to reassemble.
Harbor freight has a 3 inch buffer one side flex shaft like dremmel bits. It's about $35 and pads everything run close to 50. It's not too powerful but it's great to practice and get better on and it's not a fortune.
But nice job we should compare pics but I'm sure yours will be nicer but that's okay.

That sounds awesome! I'd love to see how yours comes out. As soon as I figure out what to replace the bag gasket with I'll get a few pics up. Did find some large diameter O rings at the hardware store the other day. Wondering if one of those would work. Didn't have the vac with me though so not sure if they have one the right size or not but if cheap enough I might give it a shot. I didn't know they made paper bags for it. I do plan to head to a local vacuum shop when I finish it to get some belts (and to show it off lol) I'll have to check and see if they have any of the bags in stock. Where are the lubrication ports on it? I put a little oil on the end of the shaft in the back but that was the only area I really saw when I had it apart where I could put oil in it. Will try to get some pics posted soon.

I completely gutted mine polished it up. I have yet to put back together. The bags I'm sure if you have a vacuum bag for example oreck take brown fitting off. The bag goes right inside blue bag like a liner. If you have any vacuum bag take fitting off and put inside blue bag. I just seen video showing ports. I will have all reassembled tommorow. I'll take pics and show ports. I have lots of Vacuum bags I'll try to make my own bag and explain to how to make one.

Still need to make a gasket for the bag ring and get a new belt but here's how it looks all polished and cleaned up. Gave all the metal parts and the painted area a nice coat of car wax. Really happy with how it turned out. Thanks again Lesinutah for the bag! Looks great on this little guy. Can't wait to show it to my friend who gave it to me.

It does look good. I've been working and lots to do.. I probably have a good amount of time to finish. I have 2 one I'm using parts for other vacuum. I tore it completely apart. I was going to put alll polished pieces on one.
So one is polished completely disassembled. The other car on brush and motor are almost gone. So I'm going to polish the second vacuum and make a good one. I just hope it didn't Chuck carbon brushes. But it's bery nice.
The lease points this is my best. Guess are where the bag covers motor housing cover either on top would be indent is grease point or it's back center of motor housing. The other is below handle below handle front side is other. Make sure. To great bruh roll.
Evey couple months spray wd40 in fan housing.
If you have smaller paper bag and rubber band you can make disposable bag. It fits inside the shell of the bag. Put on there an Right by where bag connects to the 3 notches put rubber band sealing bag. I would dare say that's quality of bags you can buy.
If you have local vacuum shop dirt devil/royal handvacs use same belt.
Just some helpful hints.
I'll have pics spoon hopefully.
