Redesigned machine from Robot.. Apparently they switched from a direct sales company to selling through their website. Looks like an awesome machine! They are running a special where you can get it home for $1.00 to try for 14 days. Any thoughts?

Yikes!

Yet ANOTHER Rainbow competitor?! It seems to share a lot of the features of a rainbow, but I couldn't find anything on their website about longevity, or a warranty. Anybody had any experience with this company?

Robot Airflow NS

There are several features or lack of features that would stop me from buying:

(1) having to mess with 2 hoses instead of one electric hose
(2) no direct connect of the electric hose to machine
(3) it looks top heavy from the pictures
(4) where would you get service? We have 2 local Rainbow dealers that have been
in business a long time and give good after the sale service
(5) I had the same power nozzle on another vacuum and it was not good as it lacked a bottom rug guard to prevent the rug edges from being sucked in and then the power nozzle overload would go off over and over again. It also had very stiff, short brushes that caused damage to delicate rugs and would collect hair around the brush roller.
Since I have had an experience with that power nozzle, that alone would prevent me from buying. Of course we cannot see the bottom of the power nozzle so maybe it has a different brush and rug guard set up.
(6) hard to tell what grade of plastics are used in construction and what type of motor in the pictures.

Scare tactics in the video clip from Today Show

Robot claims to use "100 billion nano silvers". What does this mean? 100 billion ions? 100 billion nanometers? "nano silver" is not a unit of measure, so I don't understand how they quantify it.

They say nothing about protecting the tools, hose, brushroll or other accessories with "nano silver". I was only impressed for a "nano second".

I'd still take a look at it. I'm always interested in the brands who think they've done a good job of reinventing the Rainbow.

So it's $1 to get it, but then you have to ship it back within 14 days or you owe them $989.

So it's probably more like $30 to try it.

It seems about as sketchy as door to door sales.

Let's see, they sold these vacuums for $2500+ by DTD sales with a 72hour change your mind policy.

Now they sell the units for under $1000 with a 60-day return policy (with unknown shipping and handling charges).

For contrast, the Sirena has a 30-day return policy and a 15% restocking fee ~ $132+shipping (at least on Sirena web site - not sure about amazon.com and bedbathandbeyond.com sale return policies)

I think it's a step in the right direction. Nice to see the water vacuums lowering prices. Certainly warranty and non-warranty service is a question that needs answers.

I've got one

I've got one it works pretty good but one of the wheels on the dolly broke off. I'm selling it for $350 shipped (OBO) if anybody is interested let me know and I can post pictures and show positive ebay feedback so you know I'm not a scammer :)

The thing that makes the Rainbow great, in my mind, is the switched reluctance motor - no carbon brushes and infinite motor life. Delphin now has that motor on their newest model. Sirena and Robot and Hyla all use the old style motors so they do have a limited life before the commutator and motor brushes wear out.

NO motor has infinete life-remember we have rotating parts here-the bearings WILL eventually wear out.The circuit board driving the motor WILL wear out.Just a question of time.Give to Rainbow,though-they have HEPA filters to help protect the bearings from dirt. That could prolong their life-but NOT forever. The SR motor is finding its way into other appliances-they can give a wide speed and torque range-but being a motor with moving parts-its not going to be forever.
