Hey:

Just thought I'd post that I'm heading for Calgary, Vancouver and Victoria over the next two weeks. We'll see what I can turn up if anything
Doug

But if you can't and you have a couple of minutes.. You remember where our old house was on the outskirts of Calgary (campground corner just past Chestermere).. if the times right and you're driving by on the highway can you drive over to it and take a picture of it for me from the main road before you turn onto the gravel part.. I want to see if the people that bought the then vacant land in front of it ever built the big 9000 sq ft house they were planning and what it looks like now. Seeing as I'll probably never get back there again.

Well - here are the results of the trip. Between luggage, costume stuff I bought and the vacuums my Camero was packed to the roof coming back.

Not too bad for a total outlay of about $55.00 . The best part was getting the Modern Vac which is a rebranded Swedish Electrolux but the real shocker was the Filter Queen Empress. It was sitting in a thrift store in Vancouver. When I asked about it she said the wand and floor brush were missing and the powerhead didnt work so if I wanted it I could have it for nothing. I was out the door with it so fast the rug was probably smoking.

All in all a pretty good trip

Doug, that carrying tray, with the handle, behind the red Kirby tools,,,i havnt seen one of those in years!
We had a neighbor that had a Kenmore Central Vac installed in their house in the early 1970s,,,probablly about 1971-72.
Im thinking it was one of the first central vacs that Sears came out with.
The tools to the central system came in that exact carrier,,and i havnt seen one since.
I was just a kid at the time, and it was the first central vac i had ever seen,,and was totally inthralled with it.
I remember the wall inlets had a little silver foil like pad under the door, that you had to touch to turn the suction on and off,,and the PN was the standard white Kenmore one with the permanently attached wand. The long intergraded power hoses hadnt been invented yet, so, there was a long cord strapped to the hose for the PN that you had to plug into a seperate outlet.
Thought it was the coolest thing i had ever seen!
Ive never seen central vac inlets like those old Kenmore ones since,,,they must have been problematic.
Luckily the lady of the house hated to vacuum, even with the central vac,,so, i got to use it alot! haha

Makes me think of how kind those people were, to let a little neighbor kid come over and drag out their vacuum whenever i wanted to,,,i wonder how many people would do that today.
Im not sure i would even allow it!

Welcome back home, Doug.

The FQ Empress is a handsome looking vacuum in gray. I wasn't aware of that model. Shoot, everything but a wand and floor tool? Score!!!
Such adventures I'm sure you had...we had a few here as well. :-)

That green 89 floor piece there,,,, if it's extra and you don't want it I'll buy it from ya, mines got a cracked bottom and they're ideal for my voluminous dog hair problems.

BTW any chance you got by my old place?

No problem Pete. Actually the shag rake is spoken for but if anyone needs them the Kirby parts are up for grabs - all I'm keeping is the box (the one I have isnt in as good a shape)
