Maytag M1200

That machine looks incredible for that pricepoint!

I was Just offered a new current red Radiance (not the new pearl white/blue model coming out) for $599. Do you know what is in the soon-to-be-released white Radiance that the current model doesn't have?

Between that red Radiance and the M1200 I think I still like that Maytag for the long wand and double motors. Heading out to check it out now.

Thanks to you both!

Riccar or Simplicity canister

Forget the online MSRP prices for Riccar and Simplicity. I've never seen them listed for near that high in vacuum dealer stores. They are pricier than Hoovers and Panasonics, Dirt Devils but are a FAR greater machine!!! Mieles are more expensive upfront and overtime in bag costs, filters and parts. I've tried Miele and while they're OK, I leave it at OK in performance, attachments, cord length and many other areas.

There are numerous machines available from Riccar and Simplicity. The Riccar 1700 is a very powerful canister with full size power head with 2 rows of replacleable brush strips.

Sebo and I don't get along due to performance issues!!! I agree with Kirbyloverdan on Sebo whole heartedly!!! I've tried many of their uprights and found the cleaning performance far below my liking. I've also tried the Sebo D4 black with ET-1 power nozzle. While the cord length, filtration and bag capacity were good, that's where it ends for me. I was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED with machines suction, airflow, agitator, handle comfort at hose, handle comfort on machine, and many other features I found much more difficult and not user friendly. I love power nozzle canister vacuums and the D4 that a cleaning customer of mine purchased for over $900 on QVC was extremely unimpressive to me. My Riccar 1700 canister has FAR FAR FAR FAR better cleaning power and user comfort while being just as quiet. Just as an example: Both the Sebo and Riccar canisters have a variable speed motor for suction. With the Riccar I can accomplish about 85% of my cleaning on Medium Power. Full Power will just about remove paint off a wall. With the Sebo you have to run the machine at Full Power and it's not enough--- I constantly found myself hitting the increase button to get more power as additionally with the Sebo- the indicator for the variable speed is poorly designed and it's hard to know when you're at full power.

Great info Durango. I'm sticking with the Immaculate. The dealer just agreed to lower the price from $1,329 with no tax, to $1,050 with no tax and a free box of bags when I told him I was offered a lower price elsewhere.

A HUGE thank you to funeraldirector for helping me out there! Roughly $300 saved with a phone call!

And thank you to everyone who contributes here (this thread in particular of course). I've learned a TON about this industry in a matter of only a few days.

I'm quickly becoming an addict and wondering what I'll go with next. Who am I kidding...it'll be the Sirena. :-)

Dan, Tom or anyone who owns a Lux Guardian Platinum,

Do you have any issues with bag leakage in the Lux Guardian Platinum bags? Or any other issues at all? I read numerous people saying their bags leak, that there's no auto shutoff once bag is full (just an led indicator), and that the Legacy is superior being a true Aerus made in the USA product.

I'm giving it a very serious final look before going to pick up the Immaculate tomorrow, as the aesthetics are just absolutely gorgeous. Filtration, engineering quality, air flow, & tools are all but equal (aside from Immaculate bare floor tool being slightly superior).

How do agitation and PN performance measure up to the Immaculate in your opinion? I'm not the biggest fan of L-shaped PN's, but I can live with it if it performs.

That Riccar Immaculate looks a VERY nice canister. But it's not worth $1500. I'd like to know how much the dealer can buy them for? My guess would be no more than $500. So that's a 200% mark up!!!? Personally I wouldn't pay more than $800 tops!

I have owned the Guardian Platinum for about 1 year now. There is a slight dust leakage. The vacuum does NOT shut off when the bag is full...only the light is supposed to come on however I have yet to see the light come on either. I had new carpeting installed in April and I was vacuuming up all the fluff afterwards which filled a bag however the motor overheated and shut off before the bag indicator light came on. After it cooled down, I used it the next day with a new bag to contiue vacuum up the fibres but this time I kept checking the bag. It became filled to the brim but still the full bag light did not come on. I put in another new bag and it is almost filled now and still I have not seen the indicator light come on so I don't know if it is just a problem with my machine or if it is just not ready to come on yet. I much prefered the 6500 model where it had the dial to control the bag full indicator light as well as the vac shutting off automatically. Otherwise I like the vac a lot. It is very quiet and the smaller hose handle, although still bulky, is not as big as on the 6500 (or the Legacy). The Guardian does have a longer cord (28 feet) whereas the Legacy is 20 feet. And the auto speed is a nice feature also.

If you compare the Lux Guardian to the Riccar, you'll see a number of advantages with the Riccar. The WANDS first of all. The plastic, heavy wands of the Lux do NOT age well. The Lux brush roller does NOT have replaceable bristles. The extruded aluminum agitator on the Riccar creates airflow as it turns, bringing in more dust and dirt. The height adjustor on the Riccar is appreciated especially if you have thick carpet. The quick release wand on the Riccar is much to be preferred over having to bend down to release the wand of the Lux. The lack of HEPA bags for the Lux is a problem, as all paper bags leak some dust. Perhaps no HEPA Lux bags because Lux SELLS the pre-motor filter. If HEPA bags were used, there would be no market for the pre-motor filter. The Riccar hose is crushproof. Step accidentally on the Lux hose and it's flat forever. The vacuum's controls are not on the Lux hose handle, you bend down to adjust the suction and turn the cleaner on and off.

The Riccar looks the better bet to me.I'd definitely consider one if they were available in the UK at a resonable price of course. When you look at the features they have improved on the Miele's

Ricarr or Miele

Well, old Tom my friend, you brought up some vary valid points between the Aerus and Ricarr.
It made me stop and think:

(1) I don' t much like the plastic wands on the Aerus either. Mine on my Epic 9000 seem big and heavy to handle

(2) you are right on with the Lux brush roll. I have to clean and cut the dog hair off mine every time. I do not have a Ricarr power nozzle but it looks very well designed and I like the fact the brushes can be replaced.

(3) I LOVE the quick release wand on the Ricarr. That is one feature I enjoy on my new Rainbow.

(4) I think that height adjustment would be an important factor on some carpets

(5)Crush proof hose- You are right but I still much prefer both the Aerus hose and the shape of the narrow Aerus tank type style. That is JUST something I prefer and not a performance difference.

(6) vac controls on the hose handle- I REALLY love the set up on my Rainbow where I can adjust the suction relief and turn the brush roll off/on or lock on at my fingertips.

(7) the fact that I have talked to and seen myself several of the Aerus machines with leaking bags is what has stopped me from buying one.
I don't understand as my old Electrolux 2100 has no leakage problems or even dust in the after filter like what I have seen on the new Platinums plus the facts that Gary has shared with his new machine and it not shutting off when the bag is full.

You made me stop and think! You brought up some good points about the machines at about the same price point.

Rob,

Having owned the newest black Rainbow and currently owning the Guardian, I can make some comparisons.

1. I don't really like the plastic wands either as they are bulky however they are lighter than the metal wands on the Rainbow

2. I have 2 cats that shed but I have never had any problems with cat hair getting wound around the brush roll. Maybe it is because cat hair is shorter than dog hair?

3. I agree about the quick release on the Guardian but at least there is the direct connect wands.

5. I much prefer the type of hose on the Aerus, Rainbow, FQ over those crush proof hoses. They are a little heavier and feel more solid but they are also more flexible and therefore less likely to knock something over when vacuuming in tight quarters.

6. The Guardian also has the suction relief and power nozzle on/off switch on the handle

Immaculate congrats!

I have the Riccar 1800 and Simplicity S38, which are the precursors to the current models. They're great. I love them. I also have the Miele Uniq. Also a stellar machine. You ant go wrong with Miele or Riccar. I always steer people to Riccar, and everyone is happy with them. The Immaculate is at the top of the top, and you should have a spotless home and clean air wherever you use it.

Riccar is doing something right...

Congrats indeed. I think you've made a wonderful choice - and its been a great read! I use my Mieles daily (Each day everyday ~ 40 min cleaning) and love them. S8 Dog and Cat on the living floor and the Solaris on Floor #3 - Lux takes care of the cave. Solaris and Lux have my favorite handles - the Dog and Cat handle has __way__ too much maneuvering for dusting and furniture that I have to switch hoses on it; they only things I dislike on the S8 is that handle and I could use an extra foot of hose.

Having said that - I might pick up a Riccar full size after you check in a few times on how you like it. Riccar has some great attachments and I'm willing (exhale) to try another electro fancy handle. Riccar also has the most interesting colors - Id go for a Starbright or the Charisma color but on a full size like yours and if they had the Lux pistol grips....Id be at the local shop in less than a NY minute.

So I'm loving the Immaculate. The machine out of the box as opposed to a demo unit feels like a BEAST.

I also love how the bags have the rubber seal akin to the Lux Guardian Platinum bags for maximum dust retention, where the bag affixes to the bypass. I did not know the bags had that similar feature and am now 100% happy with the choice of the Riccar Immaculate.

Thanks again to everyone for their input!

Next up...a Rainbow E2 Black!
