Hi all.

I recently came across a Riccar 8955 at the local thrift store for what I think was a good price. I've never seen a Riccar in person or physically picked one up, but heard the brand as a whole is good. It seems like a decent vacuum cleaner; however, it is missing all of the attachments with the exception of the small dusting brush. The roller seemed to be in good shape, but the housing is a bit scratched and scuffed. I turned it on for about 5 seconds in the store to make sure it worked and it checked out. The bag was full, so I tossed it out. Need to order a new one for it.

Are these pretty good cleaners? Any shortcomings or known issues? I see it has a HEPA filter too.

one of the best...

Love these! I found mine at Goodwill a few years ago, I didn't know that it would turn out to be one of my most used vacuums. I lent mine to my mom and almost never got it back, she was ecstatic when I found another for her.

The attachments shouldn't be too hard to find, they have used the same ones for quite a long time now. I recommend getting one of the long extension hoses for it, you can clean your house top to bottom with one vacuum! Also recommend the Riccar HEPA bags, the bag chamber will stay the most clean that way.

Enjoy! You'll probably find yourself gravitating toward it when you want a deep clean.

I'd love to find one of these. I only have two Tacony machines in my collection - a 2003 Simplicity Series 6, and a 2005 Synergy X9.1, and I like them both. I want to get a few more Tacony machines though. I really like them.

So, based on appearance, is this one of the early or later 8955s? I've seen this version and then one that has badging that looks different (Double 'R' on the front cover) versus the single 'R' on mine and the Riccar name is in a different location on other models. Was curious.

Post The Serial Number Sticker

and let's see if we can decode the manufacturer's date. I nabbed an 8850 last year and have had quite the blast using it.

Yes it's one of the early models. Riccar changes their logo once every while but Simplicity kept their same logo when they came out in 1989.
