Hey all! I've got a Rexair Model B that has a rusty water pan. The coating has been chipping off since I got it, and I'm worried that it's rusting more and more as I keep using it. I was wondering if I could strip out the old coating, clean up most of the rust without wearing through the metal, and re-coat the inside with Flex-Seal. You know, the rubberized sealant that comes in a spray can? As seen on TV? Yeah, that stuff. I have heard that it works very well in many applications, but would it be safe and effective to use in the water pan for a Rexair Model B?

Please let me know what you think!

I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work.
Just as long as the rubberized coating adheres to the metal.

Then there is the questions of
1. will the coating give off any fumes while curing that could ignite with the motor running. Just don't use the pan with the motor until you know the rubber has cured.

2. will the different componets of the Rainbow scents (pine, fresh air, etc.) react with the rubberized coating.

But on a bright note just think of the stuff bouncing off the walls of the pan. It's a little Rexair rubber room !!!!!!!!

One of my pans had rust, I just sanded it and sprayed it with rustoleum in white then added the red fill line back in later on.

Thanks!

I might just try it, then. I was kind of wondering about whether or not it'll produce flammable fumes, I'll have to read up on the instructions/warnings on the can. If I'm still doubtful, I might email the company themselves and see what they think.

What are your thoughts on using FlexSeal? I understand it that you have restored a fair number of these older Rexairs.

The water pan on my beautifully restored B was repainted inside as well, I believe he just used black rustoleum or some other really heavy duty stuff, I'm not sure though.
