Rexair D2

Today contacted by a friends aunt, knew her in grade school, she wanted to drop off her old Rexair, she said she got as wedding gift, new? It runs fine, but bearings sound very dry, not sure I am up to dealing with that,hands not much good at detail work anymore. I have all the parts but the box it came in and owners manual, no power head, straight suction tools and hose is all that is here. How old is this sucker? It says Cadillac Michigan, 7.5 amp.She thinks it has been run without water in the basin, unsure.

If it's a D2 it's somewhere in the mid to late 1970s.

Thanks, that would fit the time frame as I graduated mid 70s and she was a year behind me.

The original D2 was produced from April 1974 to December 1979.

The D2A (which had the D2 body combined with the D3 motor assembly) was produced from January to March 1980.

Both the D2 and D2A as well as some D3As could be had with the Eureka-sourced R1024 power nozzle option, type letters are as follows:

R1024-A: 2-wire cord, "Rexair" on light woodgrain front label. (1974-75)

R1024-B: 3-wire cord, "Rexair" on light woodgrain front label. (1975-77)

R1024-D: as R1024-B but with "Rainbow" on light woodgrain front label. Brush roll is also re-designed and so will not be compatible with the brush roll used on the previous two models listed above. (1977-78)

R1024-E: largely unchanged from R1024-D. (1978-79)

R1024-F: new front label; on solid brown background is the Rainbow script logo above gradient yellow-orange horizontal stripes. Bumper changes to dark brown, as does the nozzle's own power cord. (1979-80)

R1024-G: uses the 1976-79 label but now on a dark woodgrain backdrop. (2nd qtr. 1980)

R1024-H: very rare version mostly similar to the R1024-G. (4th qtr. 1980)

Strange, it sounds a bit better today! It might just sit in the garage a while, project for someone handy, or donate it to the local second hand store that runs the pet rescue in the area.
