Revival of a Hoover 1060

Recently I went to one of my favorite Vac Shops...I had a whole bunch of loose items to get, but I was also interested in this Hoover 1060 that has been up on his shelf.


We pulled her down and I got a good look. No headlight lens, no brushroll, and missing handle hardware. Then I go to test it and noticed the original plug had been removed with 2 bare wires exposed instead. I jammed the wires into an outlet and flipped the switch.


Nothing.


I futzed with the plug some and got a sign of life. The motor noisily grumbled up to speed and didn't sound just right. Maybe bearings or brushes, I thought.


I dragged it home and dug around in my parts bin and found a nice brushroll. Re-Greased the bearings with my Hoover Grease Gun.

A great machine, one of the best.
Don't you have friends/contacts who can get that all back up to snuff? I'm sure your people can help you restore that Hoover to its former glory.

I went to replace the Paper Bag and make some minor outer bag repairs and found Original bellows and bag retainer. I swapped this out for a newer bellows. I put in a new C bag after I bought more Lark belts.

That lens will be difficult.

I'm sure somebody will find one in their stock somewhere.

Here is the motor. Fairly clean, but NOISY! I went to work by inspecting the brushes and greasing the lower bearing. I discovered the Carbons had only just seated. By the condition of the machine I think it was hardly used.

The fan chamber is still somewhat painted! I always find them wore to bare metal.

I cleaned the base, and installed a new Upper Sleeve bearing. LED Headlight bulb is also installed. Motor is still dusty, but MUCH cleaner!

Then i went to work cleaning the Hood. I found a warped lens off a Plastic Base machine. It is taped in because it's warped shape allows it to slide in and out.

Since the cord is FLAWLESS otherwise I put a replacement Hardware Store plug on. The clip is VERY snug on the cord, but will come to shape correctly soon.

And here we see the Finished Product. I will try to make a video and take running shots soon.

looking for a 1060 lens

Nice job. Where did you find the lens? I have a 1060 and I am also missing the lens.

Came off a junker at the shop I bought toe 1060 in. Those lenses are getting scarce

About that LED light bulb...

I'm considering one of these light bulbs for my model 719. Which specific one did you buy, and how has it been so far?

I just buy the 120V wedge base bulb at the hardware store. Leviton brand if I remember correctly, but I could be completely wrong. No issues to speak of

That appears to be the same color combination as the Portable that my parents had.
It was the first vacuum that I ever met, and the one that sparked my interest in them.

That headlight lens looks like something that could easily be 3D printed. When I was a little kid (circa 1972), we got a Hoover convertible like that. It was the classic "Brady Bunch" model with the pistachio green hood and no headlight. I remember the first time I laid eyes on it, I thought to myself, shouldn't there be a headlight there?

You can tell

at least I could tell that that is a good machine. It just has that quality look about it, nothing quirky or experimental,all tried and true. A rugged(no pun) machine and a great value, typical of that era. Nice!
