Regina upright model 39

Hello everyone. Some of you may remember a long while back that I mentioned an abandoned house where my grandparents live containing all kinds of forgotten treasures. Well, my grandfather pulled some stuff out. He got a 50s crosley shelvador fridge which is great! He also gave me an antique Regina vac. I have already cleaned up the bag and it looks good! I tried to pull the motor apart and had no luck. I can't get a plate below the fan off. I tried to oil the bearings the best I could, both of them are sleeve bearings. When I plugged it in, after replacing the cord, nothing happened. I tested the wires coming out of the handle which are in great shape and got no continuity. I'm really not sure where to go from here! If one of you has worked on these machines I could use some sage advice. Thanks in advance. I really do like the style of it. Oh, the motor is made by Westinghouse too. Maybe that will give a clue.

I really like the look of it! I recently got a regina stick vacuum (albeit not as vintage as yours). I'm starting to think that reginas are pretty good looking sweepers

Hi Raymond!

I have the exact same model! Sorry I can't offer you any advice, Mine runs like a top and I've never had to work on it. However, if you got no continuity the first things I would check are the switch and the wiring from the motor up through the handle. Main thing is, make sure you are getting power to the motor. Going to see if i can get it apart

Thanks for the comments everyone. I am going to see if I can take a look and pull the motor apart. The switch tests good so it must be the cord itself or something deeper in the motor. I really want to get at the bearings so that I can lubricate them.

Well, i figured out what is wrong...

I took a closer look at the motor for the Regina. It looks like there was a break in the cord right before it goes into the motor. Now I am going to have to pull it apart if I ever am going to get it running. A member of an antique refrigerator forum that I am a part of suggested that I heat up the case with a blow torch to expand the outer case and loosen the plate that way. I think he is on to something. I will try that tonight. He works with metal for a living so I trust his judgement. I am going to be extra careful to not apply too much heat and ruin something important, stay tuned...

No such luck!

I tried my best to heat up the housing to try and separate it from the fan and bearing plate. No dice. It still won't budge. I am honestly beginning to think that I won't be able to save this one aside from being a neat display piece.
