Can anyone tell the story behind this like when was this produced, why, we're there other models, was this sold in stores or taken on demos as a gift etc? Excuse the dirt, she hasn't been to the spa yet.

Those Reginas with the power nozzle must be from the 1970's. Maybe this was American Electrolux's first attempt at offering a stick vac in their line-up. Or could it have been a freebee given away as part of a promotion?

I took apart last night and serviced it. its dated march 1990. According to collectors on fb this was produced in the late 80s-early 90s when apparently Lux bought Regina.

Indeed, Electrolux (neither American nor Swedish) ever bought Regina. And when Oreck bought it, I don't think they continued making the classic style of "surround bag" Electrikbroom. They went for a brand new style featuring a hard body. So this oddity must have been born before the sale of Regina and be due to a special contract between the original Regina of Rahway, NJ and the American Electrolux Corporation.

Thank you Wikipedia! In 1995, Regina was sold to Philips. In 1997, Philips sold it to Oreck. In 2000, Oreck was bought by Royal....which is now owned by TTI!

In the late 80s the American Electrolux had new management with many new ideas.This led to the purchase of Regina,the PureLux water filter,later room air filters and more new but maybe not so great ideas.
The above broom was the only Regina to be sold by Elux branches.They actually thought they might get a share of the market for lighter vacs such as Oreck.It was packed with a short hose that could be used with power nozzle removed,crevice tool,wands and the Elux above floor tool in gray.
And later they became Aerus.

Purelux, now there's something you don't see everyday. I actually have one I'd love for someone to take off my hands. It's all in its original blue suitcase and still has its salesman sample binder with an advertisement featuring Lloyd Bridges endorsing the product. I got it many about 15 years ago from an old retired Electrolux man

Is there a name plate on it (listing the ratings, model, etc.)?
If so, please post a photo of it or give us the information.
One thing I've noticed is that the bold Electrolux letters mean that it was manufactured in Canada and possibly assembled in the US. It's not the usual Electrolux logo, anyway.

Rugsucker, not so fast there. The original Electrolux Little Lux hand vacuum was also a re-badged Regina, too. Look at both versions & they are virtually identical.

Rob-There are some things we should try to forget.Yes the Regina hand vac became the first LittlLux.As a Regina it had brighter colors and an attachment kit.When Elux bought Regina they found the engineers knew how to make a better product but management would not approve changes.Later when Oreck bought Regina it was for the modern factory facility.

If you were in management of a vac company the had a 4ply self sealing bag with customers and salesmen who loved the easy bag change with--'See no,Touch no,Breathe no dust'would you add 2 machines using shake out cloth bags with same name on them?!?!?(Try to forget.)

Lux Lite and Littl Lux
These are actually quite rare to find now. I remember seeing both in Sears for sale during the early 90's. The power-team was curious. During the 1989 run the Regina electrikbrooms switched over to the Cosmo style with a new plastic handle, the cord exited out of the lower part of the motor housing and the bags switched over to a plain one color look. The one speed had a charcoal colored bag, the two speed had a red/orange colored one and the 3 speed used a dark blue hue. The Electrolux version of the power-team kept the older style handle and switch with the cord exiting from the back side of said switch just like Regina used for so many years. This was probably a good thing because the Cosmo style brooms used a very flimsy plastic style upper handle grip that was very prone to cracking. Sadly the same flimsy plastic was carried over to the motor housing on both Regina and Lux Lite power-team and the dirt tube path on the underside of the front cover is often split near the screws. A sure fire was to tell is a loose fitting dirt cup. If the dirt cup feels loose after latching in place chances are the dirt tube fill path has cracks near the screw hold downs which means a loose fit and dirt shooting all over the back side of the housing.
The Littl Lux was simply a Regina Dirt Magnet but in a darker shade of blue with an off white bag. Surprisingly 3 small improvements were made on this one. On the underside of the suction path a small metal piece was added so the brush roll didn't interfere with what was being vacuumed as a sort of guard. Second there was a strain relief added on the cord going into the cleaner. Third the cord was up-sized from 15-20' to a full 25' on the Lux. These were rather noisy and used what was essentially a 3 amp power head motor with a pressed on Regina Electrikbroom fan which meant good suction and air flow. Pics to follow soon

That was interesting info about the Lux/Regina. I think Lux tried to do stickvacs several times. My friend's mom, who owned a Silverado, also had a yellow hard body stickvac that only had a straight suction floor nozzle on it. It was different from this and much bulkier. It was Electrolux branded.
I understand why they did it. They were trying to compete in all areas. Rebadging is easier to try to get into the market. They never worked out very well. Everyone seems to have thought like me, they just don't clean well enough to be bothered with.

There were actually 4 models of Trivac produced from 1976 to 1987.
The 1421 (Yellow) 1976-1977, 1428 (Brown) 1978-1982, 1450 (Almond) 1982-1985, and 2102 (Jadestone) 1985-1987.
A power nozzle version was also designed but was never sold through the Electrolux outlets (though there are a few around that were retrofitted with original parts)
I believe the Rebranded Regina electric broom was out in 1987-1988 just after the Trivac was discontinued. We never got them in Canada though.

Yes! That's exactly it. That yellow one is the very model she had. I only saw it once one evening when she had it out in the living room. I didn't know at the time that Lux had ever made such a thing. This was before the Internet which made it so much easier learning about Lux's past.

I had the Regina version when I went to Florida to finish a travel training class. I bought it while there to keep the room clean. It worked very well for what it was. Of course it was no Kirby or Hoover but none the less a nice stick vac. I think I paid around $35.00 for it in 1988. I sold it to one of the staff at the school when the class was over 4 weeks later. She wanted to know what I would do for a vacuum. I politely said I didn't need it as I had a New Kirby I bought last year waiting for me at home.

My apologies, friends. I stand corrected. Indeed, I found several news articles reporting on the sale of Regina to the Electrolux Corporation (not AB Electrolux of Sweden) in May of 1989.
But the poor Electrikbroom company switched hands no less than 4 times in 20 years! Electrolux in 1989, Philips in 1995, Oreck in 1997 and then over to TTI when they bought Oreck in 2005.

My granddaughter rented a condo a year ago with a newly installed Frigidaire refrigerator that literally sounded like a midget with an icepick was in the freezer compartment trying to chop their way out. She literally thought someone had been breaking into her kitchen.
Three service companies came out, with all claiming to have remedied the noise. The forth and last service technician said that Frigidaire hasn't been a GM division in 40-years, and is now owned by Electrolux headquartered in Sweden.
Come to find out, the defrost cycle uses a Cal-rod heating element to reduce defrost time, that causes the paper-thin aluminum evaporator fins to click and pop when expanded by the element's heat. Imagine someone in your kitchen at three in the morning repeatedly folding a disposable pie tin back and forth until it finally tears in half.
Long story short, Electrolux bought it back ! ! !

Thanks so much for this thread. I am not a collector, just a vintage fan and thrift store aficionado. My go-to place for just about everything I need! And I needed a stick vacuum.
Just picked this Lux Lite up at my local Goodwill based solely on the Electrolux reputation. But from the sound of things here, I guess the joke is on me, since its pedigree sounds dubious! However it really does still have great suction so I think it will work out.I do wonder if y'all might tell me where I might find a manual?? Digital or othewise. All I can fond online are scans of the cover. Anyway, it would be a great help! Thanks!!

HELP-- toggle switch went out on this Electrolux/Regina
I joined just 4 yrs ago to get info on my newly aacquired Electrolux/(Regina?) Stick broom. It worked fabulously for 3 years, though I always had to "finesse" the toggle switch a bit to find the "sweet spot".
Unfortunately that "sweet spot" disappeared altogether about a year ago. I don't want to give up on her, but I've never done ANY kind of electrical work...let alone appliance repair. (And no budget to get someone else to do it.)
Can anyone give me some guidance here?? I'm attaching photo from my original post in this thread (3rd from the bottom).

I like all this information, I have a little lux and little lux2 in my collection. lux2 has a odd design for the bag placment.
