VacHeads & Guru Board Members - I Need Advice Please

I'm a mini collector with about 11 that I love. I'm a longterm troll and eventually I knew one day I'd either have to share or need to ask the community something.

On the plus side rest assured I've probably already read a ton of the posts and then gone down my own path digging up more and more.

Right now I'm in a tough spot and I'm looking to at least see if someone would help school me on a "mystery" Regina Electrikbroom in my collection.

I sorry for the long post. Please don't ban me.

So I know in the July 1983 issue of Consumer Reports they gave the Regina's
Elictrikbroom Powerteam HB 6910 ("Power
team 6910") lots of strong kudos that later went on to the big legal battle when Regina planned to use snippets of their report within the Squid version commercial / ad. In that issue they reviewed the Powerteam 6910. (the case law is very interesting)

I think I own a 1983 Model 6710 but have never been able to find any such model mentioned or for sale. So truth be told I've kinda always hoped I have the only one but I'm ready to actually find out what do I own!

Main Points:
Since my unopened box says copyright 1983 I figure it was made in 1983 or after. 6710 may have been before or after the 6910?

The Tops story including their move to Edison etc. is really interesting too and after knowing about it - I really enjoy the Tops Appliance stamp on the box.

So - anyone still reading can you school me or help me figure out what exactly I have?

I'm not sure what you mean by "what I really have"

However I had one in 1988 when I was in Fl. to finish up a travel training class.

I did work well and several of us used it to clean our dorm rooms. I even got a free hair cut for letting the girls doing hair cuts for friends use it to clean up.

It worked well for hard floors or low pile carpet/level loop carpet. No where near the performance level of a full size upright. In spite of all that it did in fact make the obvious debris vanish.

Some models had and optional 6 ft. hose with basic attachments to use that plugged into the back of the power head. Didn't have the hose.

I believe I paid around $70.00 for it at the time.

Sold it just before I left to come home to one of the staff at the school. She couldn't believe I would sell it. I said I didn't need it after the classes ended. As I had purchased a new Kirby Heritage 2 the year before waiting for me at home.

At the time I wished that I still had the rebuilt Kirby 519 I was at one time using to clean at a mall I was working at and at times at my office cleaning job. I would have taken that with me to do the cleaning in the dorm rooms. We had a list of things to take with us that would just about set up a household.

The school provided a household shop vac for the students to use. Well you can guess how well that worked. All be it almost indestructible and or easily replaced.

I also had purchased one for a very small branch of bank we cleaned at the time. Worked well for that as well. About 144 Sq. ft. of carpet and about that much hard floor. No real need for a full size vacuum that and there wasn't much room to store it. Fit nicely under the teller line.

I can't really help much, but I used to recommend those Regina Power Team units to folks that moved into our local Senior Living Apartments.

The apartments had a flat commercial grade carpet. Those Regina Power Team units were perfect.

My only complaint was emptying them. It always seemed like the dirt spilled out no matter how careful you were.

I have one in my collection and use it. It is hard to find the right belt for it now.

I always found those power nozzle electric brooms to be an ingenious, though simple, design. Kind of like the early ancestors of today’s popular cordless stick vacs. Hoover made one back in the 1970’s, and Kenmore had a Progressive version in the 2000’s that was highly rated by Consumer Reports. Best things about the Hoover and the Kenmore: full size power nozzles and the dirt was collected in disposable bags!

What Model Is It? The box says Regina SHB6710 - Never Seen

Thanks for the replies. We had two growing up but they're long gone. I'm just a solo newb and for the life me can only guess that its a 6710 from 1983 brought out briefly before infamous 6910 Consumer Reports Hoopla.

Can anyone confirm they made a 6710?

I've decoded the old UPC check digit tool and think the UPC is actually
UPC: 022811020053

Can anyone tell if it came out before the 6910?

That’s typical I guess.. people come on here asking for advice just so they can sell a vacuum for an ungodly amount of money. Those were budget vacuums when they were new. Like today’s Bissells. Yes best of luck with that!!!

Used to have one of those dual motor powernozzle Regina vacuums.Think I bought it from K-Mart.At the time was building DynaKit Hi-Fi amp kits.Used the Regina to clean up the wire clippings and such.The vacuum failed in a Strange,unusual way.A wire clipping got caught in the fan and it cut off the plastic nozzle in front of the fan.The powernozzle dropped to the floor!!!I liked this little machine-but with this failure----Dumpstered the thing and went to Star vacuum(wash DC area) and bought a Royal upright-this one did MUCH better with the wire clippings!

Starting with a tiny store in New Brunswick, New Jersey, Leslie S. Turchin developed Tops Appliance City, Inc. into one of the leading retailers of home appliances and consumer electronics in New York and New Jersey, with eight megastores. The company ranked seventh nationwide among consumer electronics chains in 1993, and the following year recorded the highest sales volume per square foot of any publicly held retailer in the United States. The company was unable to maintain such momentum, however, in the fiercely competitive greater New York City metropolitan market and faced some challenges in the mid-1990s.


Private Company, 1970-1991

Turchin started out in the electronics and appliance business at the age of nine, working part-time in his father's store in Linden, New Jersey, a gritty, industrial city south of Elizabeth and Newark. After high school he worked in the family business full-time, but had to leave, he told a reporter, "because my father wouldn't pay me a living wage. He only paid me $125 a week gross, while my rent was $145 a month." Turchin joined Sears, Roebuck and Co. at the age of 23 as an appliance salesman in 1965, and he then joined Kelvinator Inc. as a regional sales representative in 1969.

Armed with a $25,000 grubstake, Turchin, at the age of 27 or 28, went into business himself in 1970 by purchasing Tops TV & Appliance in downtown New Brunswick. This "closet-sized" 1,800-square-foot store, across the street from a closed Sears, was in an area later cleared for urban renewal. "When I started," Turchin related to an interviewer, "it was me, one full-time salesman, one part-time bookkeeper and a part-time driver, and we used to get a driver's helper--a stew bum off the street."

Turchin remained there until 1979, when he more or less traded some New Brunswick real estate for a shopping center in nearby Edison that included a closed W.T. Grant's. He recorded sales of $9 million in the first year and eventually was able to take over the entire Grant building, a 45,000-square-foot structure that, arguably, was the first superstore in the consumer electronics industry.

Regina Belt Alternative

I need a belt for my Regina PowerTeam. My model # is HB6910C, Style G1. Can any of you advise me on if you know of a readily available, reasonable, replacement belt, possibly from a similar vacuum that will fit mine? I am already aware that I can order from ApplianceFactoryParts, but they wany $10 bucks for shipping a $3 belt, and I might have to wait 20 days to get it, so I am looking for a better solution.

Areyoufollowing, you had better be prepared to hold onto that Regina for a looooooooong time if you expect to get $700 for it. Why would I pay $700 for your vacuum when I can buy a new Sebo or Miele canister with a full size powerhead, with a warranty, for only slightly more than you want for your old, ancient *rare* Regina with no warranty, no parts support and a cleaner that's nowhere near as good?

Better come back down to earth with your expectations

I go along with Kirbylux77!A Sebo "Dart" would be a similar upright vacuum.The one of those I had must of been more than 30yrs ago.Was like 125 bucks or something like that from K-Mart.
