Following on from sebo_fan's recent post on numatic selling sebo G series vacuums branded Numatic, I kept looking on their and stumbled upon what looks like a slightly modified and more rounded, more modern looking standard henry cylinder without the face, and battery powered? What have numatic got in Germany ? Must be a market out there for them.

AIAIAIA!!! OMG I WANT IT!!!
What's the suction like? Will it be available in the UK? It's so useful :D

This cleaner has specific applications. No one -commercial or domestic- would buy it for situations where mains power was available. This cleaner isn't designed for convenience, it's designed for where power is not readily available.

I never trust any battery powered vacuums, or anything for that matter. In situations where mains power was not available however this may be of use - but £400? Hmm, a bit too pricey for me, even if it is a Numatic.

I would be interested to see what the performance it like though, so if anybody buys one - let us know!!

Compensation culture

Or even where power is available - they are saying that the problems of people suing companies for tripping over the cleaning lady's vacuum cleaner cable and all these new "elf and safety" laws is making things difficult for companies where the public can go back and forth, and possibly trip over a cable draped across a lobby or reception area etc.

They already use "backuums" or backpack vacs to vac aeroplanes and other places where power is not available. Its the health and safety aspect as I say and the fear of litigation leading to more battery vacs being used.

How about the Miele S4 Hybrid? they were around the £500 mark when launched - again you are paying through the nose for the batteries, and these only have a limited life of about 5 years.

Health and safety laws

Don't get me started on that. Not H&S per-se, but the way people belittle it, the urban myths, and of course the classic, using H&S as a blatant excuse for not wishing to allow something. H&S is very important and sense of perspective needed.

But I do agree that this new Numatic will be handy for situations where the general public are present.

The Miele Hybrid offers both mains power and short term battery life - does the Numatic or is it battery only? One has to keep that in mind, whether both machines are £100 cheaper or more expensive - the Numatic is also far more robust and takes a bigger bag - but still, it is a niche choice if it only offers battery only power.

So you'd be pretty limited to how much you could use it, depending on how many charged battery packs you had - bearing in mind, each battery pack only gives 30 mins run time before it has to be recharged, so if you had a lot of area to cover, then you'd either need to learn to be a very fast vacuumer or pay out for several batteries and chargers. Mega bucks!

But, as Benny says, these vacs are specialist machines for commercial use, and companies have considerably more money to play with than we do (Although many of them don't like spending it).

You can get "Backuums"(Love that name)from NSS designed for aircraft cleaning-mainly airliners. The vacuum runs from the airplanes 208/120V 400 Hz 3 ph supply.Next time you ride on an airliner look closely under the seats and you may spot the outlets for the vacuum.
The idea of the battery Numatic sounds cool, also NSS makes a cordless battery backpack-"backuum"for commercial use.The battery machines aren't as powerful as line operated ones of course-excepting the 400Hz aircraft vac.Becuase of the high frequency that vacuum has an induction motor-at 400Hz spins as fast as the conventional universal motor running from 50/60 hz.

I completely forgot to put the link - http://www.microsofttranslator.com/...www.numatic.de/produkte/batterie-staubsauger/

Not sure how those specs add up to the regular mains powered one, but I have always had this feeling that battery powered alternatives don't have the punch behind them that mains powered equivalents have, although that with newer battery technology such as lithium air s a very new one, that is changing. The concept is here though, I mean that is something.

This is the thing. These cleaners have not been designed with the intention of them being used instead of a regular corded cleaner, they are for situations where power is not available or where a cord represents a danger. It is also very true that no business likes to spend money unnecessarily so, but in the world of contract cleaning costs like this can be passed onto the client. Thus, when tendering for a contract in a situation where only a cleaner like this can be used, there is always the option to incorporate this into bid which is tendered.

I have seen one being used on a Royal Caribbean cruise, Oasis of the Seas, they used it after the grand parade after they shot confetti all over the main concourse. The vacuums were almost silent, but the suction looked a little weak, for using them how they were using them they were adequate, they had no nozzle on the end of the want, they just used the want to suck up the confetti. All of the vacuums that Royal Caribbean uses are Numatics.
