recent vacuum sightings on TV

Note: The vac in Mr. Mom was a Classic, not a Classic Omega, as the Omega had a scuff plate around the rear and a horizontal plug, where "Jaws" didn't have a scuff plate and the plug was vertical.

Also, a rebranded Rainbow E was shown on Everybody Loves Raymond "Humm Vac" (2001.) They still left the Rainbow logo on the attachments and possibly the power nozzle.

And just a few weeks ago, on Hot In Cleveland, they had a brand new Dyson DC41. I thought that somewhat odd, considering the ancient kitchen appliances, especially the range.

On Friends, Courtney Cox had a Rainbow Performance Edition. Thankfully, they didn't mask the sound, as most TV shows use a generic 'sound' (usually a Kirby's low, throaty growl) instead of actually using the true sound of the machine.

That was in one of the flashback episodes, I believe, where Phoebe is slowly moving out without telling Monica.

Later on, she has a Sanitaire upright that you only ever see the handle of once, and later still she has a DC07.

Kizzy

I don't remember that series at all, but I suppose by then I was 18 so probably a bit too old for it.

Canadian readers will recognise the cleaner as being similar (looking at least) to the Electrolux "loaf" models.

Its a 5.50 into the link

It's a bit off-topic but ...

... OMG do I love the furnishings in Samantha Stevens' living room!

That Hans Wegner "Papa Bear" chair in the corner (with matching ottoman) today -- an original -- in pristine condition -- would fetch over $20,000.

Embedding video

Si,

It's really easy.

These instructions are for computers with Windows operating systems.
While VL is open and you are creating or responding to a thread, open a second browser window. Access the video you want, and copy the URL from the top of the screen (on the youtube browser window) - you can do this by highlighting the URL with your mouse then hold down the CTRL key and press C - for copy

You have then two options:
Click into the "URL Link to share" box, hold down the Ctrl key and press V - for paste. This will create the blue line under your text "Click here to go to xxxx's link" - this opens a new window

or compose your message and hold down the Ctrl key and press V so that the link you copied appears as a line in your text - this will create the box within your text - this is called (I believe) embedded video.

How this is achieved is far beyond me, it is all down to the clever mind of Robert, who has created so much utility for us.

Hi Fa-of-fan´s. Do you remember the Matlock´s episode name where rainbow vacuum appears? i´m looking after it and i can´t find it.

Thanks

Shamless

I was catching up on Shamless and frank is in Shelia's basement making his beer. Leaning up against the wall is an early Electrolux "one piece" power nozzle.

Mandurries, the Matlock episode is called "The Competition". Unfortunately I don't believe it's on Youtube at the moment.

tv vacuums

in the movie "burnt offerings" karen black is vacuuming the stairs with a kirby & then hands it off to a boy who carries it down the stairs & sets it down. movie is on you tube & at about 26:52 into it is her vacuuming.

Downton Abbey

On the first episode last season, they showed a maid vacuuming. It was at the beginning of the episode. The household was in an uproar, because Lady Cora's maid left.I believe it was a coffee can Hoover upright. They only showed the top of the bag,& the handle, for just a second.

Currently working our way through The Golden Girls.

In the first season episode where the girls decide to have a garage sale, one of the things out for sale is a Hoover Dial-A-Matic.

Movie sighting...

Last night late, I saw the last 15 min. or so of a Kim Novak movie, 1959, Middle of the Night. It was a scene with the housekeeper vacuuming with a McAllister (sp?) canister, very much a Fairfax look-a-like. The camera pulled back in the scene giving a rather long view of the vacuum. That's the first time I've ever seen that brand on TV or movie.

I don't recall seeing any scenes with a vacuum cleaner in action after the set of Bewitched was remodeled. Perhaps the shag carpeting was too much for Samantha's Dial-a-Matic. The only vacuum I recall was in the episode where everyone has to tell the truth and a salesman comes to the door with a Regina canister. I think this could have been the last episode of the series, as it was remake of an earlier B&W episode.

No bashing of the Dial-a-Matic was intended by the statement in my last post...just a weak attempt at humor given the two very different carpet styles used on the early and later sets of Bewitched. My grandmother's DAM worked just fine on their paneled living room with medium shag carpeting.

Mommie Dearest

I just noticed after all the times watching the movie. That it appears Joan Crawford had a Kirby sitting next to the washers and dryers. You see only the handle and top half of the bag. It also looked like it was missing the cord.
