Ill be darned,,did not know that,,and also did not know about why she wore the pearls,,thanks for sharing that, good to know!
Other vacuum sightings - There is an episode of "The Partridge Family" where Shirley Jones is using a Regina Brush and Beat upright. If i remember correctly, she is actually using it,as the bag is inflated, and i think there is a headlight.
She turns it off to speak, and the light goes out, and bag deflates.
There are also several episodes of "All in the Family" where the vacuum cleaner is evident. One early episode, "Edith" brings a 1950s (i think, may even be 40s) model GE upright from upstairs and puts it next to the closet by the front door.
A little later in the series, "Archie" is vacuuming with a blue hood/white body/blue hand grip Hoover Covertible. Unfortunatly the producers chose to use sound effects, as it dosent even sound like a convertible being used, and the bag is not inflated while he is using it - cheezy. Hated it when they do that.
Also a little later in the series, Edith is vacuuming with a green Hoover Dial, and has the hose attached. She is trying to vacuum under the TV, and the floor brush gets stuck and comes off, sending her into a chair. Her friend, crossdresser "Beverly LaSalle" comes in and picks up the whole console TV, and Edith grabs the floor brush. Haha
Also, in one episode, after a fight, Archie is trying to make his own supper, and spills cereal all over the kitchen floor, so goes to the broom closet for the broom. The broom is holding up a shelf, which colapses and falls to the floor with a loud crash and clank when he pulls the broom out. On the shelf were the metal chrome wants to a green BOL Kenmore cannister, which can be seen with its hose on the closet floor.
Being a big fan of The Mary Tyler Moore Show,,i was always expecting to find out WHAT kind of vacuum Mary Richards had. We never find out, as there is NEVER any sign of a vacuum cleaner in that show. NEVER.
In one later episode, (where Ted and Georgette plan a last minute shot gun wedding in Mary's appt.) she goes to get the vacuum,(when she finds out whats about to happen) but we never see it. DARN!
I always imagined Mary Richards had a early 1970s Dial a Matic or an Electrolux 1205.
Also, Episode of "The Golden Girls", "Rose" the Betty White character, is using an Electrolux Silverado Special with the hose in the blower, stuck in her pants!,,she is trying a new thing called "Vacuum Slacks",,,and of course they blow up instead of suck in.
Also an episode of the GGs shot in the garage, there is a Regina Brush and Beat upright in the back ground. Have often wondered if it may be the same one that Shirley Jones is using all those yrs before on the Partridge Family, as it is an unusual and rare vacuum. Strange that one would be in 2 different shows, 20 yrs or so apart.
Also and episode of "The Bob Newhart Show" where his wife Emily, played by Suzanne Plashette has an Electrolux 1205 strapped to a dinning room chair and the hose in the blower mode with one of the metal wands attached to the hose,,has a ping pong ball suspended in mid air.
There is also an early episode of the same show where one of Bobs patients (he plays a Psychologist) is selling vacuums,,and Bob of course buys one. Its a blue Electrolux model G with just the hose and a generic floor brush.
Fun memories!
