Found a kirby D50 with tags on it. Bag is full,( I'll clean it later) brush roller and belt looks to be original. It is horse hair. hardly a scratch on the rug plate and the metal fan doesn't have one nick in it. Its exceptional except some dirt and in need of some polishing. Its so unscathed I'm afraid to do anything to it. almost NIB condition! Ideas, What would you do with it? almost want to pay a pro rebuilder (one of you) to polish it up and just keep it forever! Pics to come shortly

that was probably used once for the demo, a housewife was pressured into buying it, and it was shoved into a closet for 50 years. nice find.

Joseph,

Just use a mild dish soap on the rubber, and chrome polish on the metal.
A small buffing wheel on a Dremel type tool on low won't burnish it.
I wish I still had my moms. She sold it after I moved out.

Exceptional...

The wheels don't even show any wear. Yeah, that'll polish up nicely. Try hitting it with some Mother's just to see what happens. Half an hour's work will probably bring back a lot of its original luster. That's a keeper for sure.

my daily's

I have a good supply of mothers. I'll work on it this weekend. The bag is full and smells like an old basement but the outside looks like it was stored in a plastic bag. I wonder where this was kept for 50 years being it has very little dust on it. Just regular oxidation. The tool box has water marks on it but the inside of the box is new. This was an e bay score. Pick up only. As luck would have it, I have friends in the county it was listed in New Jersey! I live in Colorado. What are the odds?

The very first Kirby I had ever seen in person was this model. I love it! Love the color and the size of this model.NO idea where my aunt's old one ever went. I want to say around 1964???

My D50...

I got mine on ebay with full set of attachments including Rug Renovator for $52.00 about 2 years ago. It had a factory rebuild in 1989 and then was stored in an attic for for 25 years when my seller got it in an estate sale. All I did was shine it up with some Mother's. It runs like brand new.
