Reasonable Price For A Coffee Can Hoover?

Hello all! I have quite a few vintage vacuums already, but I lack what is a must have for any collector, and that is a "coffee can" style Hoover! However, as I have never delved into the realm of old Hoovers, I have no idea where to start! The most important thing to me is that it runs. I could care less about polished metal and an original bag and cord. How much should I expect to pay for an old Hoover like this, and where should I look?

I've paid anywhere from $10 to $100 for a Coffee Can Hoover, it just depends on how badly you want it.

It also depends on if the seller thinks that it is his or her ticket to retirement and wants a fortune.

Sometimes it is just better to walk away and keep looking for one in better shape or at a more realistic price.

In my case I've found a couple cheap that I just used for spare parts.

Say I had $50. What could that get me? I know these vacuums aren't rare, because they made millions of them and they are super durable.

As I have possibly 2 dozen 20s/30s Hoovers one place(but not the only)to look would be here!With 'wrong' bag and replaced cord(that you say you wouldn't care about)they might start about $30 with nicer original bag models priced higher.As days get longer and weather nicer I will spend more time on my vac store clean out until it is EMPTY.A few will be saved,others will go to collectors,dumpster or scrap metal yard.Call my phone or they will be GONE--

I'm also looking to get a Compact with a power nozzle and a Royal metal upright. Does anyone know the typical prices for these?

I have several 'coffee cans'.

I have a nice 'array' of them. Although, they are not my favorite era. MY favorite time for Hoover is the Convertible era. MY personal' opinion would be to try to get a nice model 700. They are a nice specimen of that time. Perhaps, also, a nice art deco version with the 'headlight'. It might be hard getting one with a good, 'original' bag and cord. But, they are out there. They are not terribly pricey. I never paid a vast sum for them. Some were under $30.00 at yard sales, estate sales, etc.

I don't really care about an original bag and cord. For me, it adds to the "character" of that particular unit. I already have a Hoover U4003, So I'm good on plastic hood Convertibles, although I would like to find a Hoover 65. Anyone know how much one of those are? My current vintage vac wishlist consists of:
Hoover "coffee can" upright (any model)
Compact with a power nozzle (any model)
Royal metal upright (any model with a brushroll)

Both my Hoover 700's I got on eBay as-is for $50 and $80. That's with shipping too. One is a 1960's rebuild and the other is all original and untouched. Their condition is best I can describe as "barn find". Cleaned up models people charge more for, but being nearly 100 years old expect them to be due for a service.

I would have never thought to look on eBay. I just assumed that the prices would be well over $200 due to people thinking that they have an extremely rare antique Hoover, when in reality, thousands of them are still around. I'll have to check.

Most should.I want to get a final list of older Kirbys and then I can sort older Hoover uprights that are both upstairs and downstairs at old shop.I also have at least a dozen Compacts but only 1 or 2 with PN(have never found their first power nozzle).Have a few 40s-70s Royal upright(& a very few straight suction).

Hoover & Royal uprights might start about $30.Compacts with power nozzle would be more.As I recall 1 is near new,1 very good.Will try to sort after Regina,Bissell,Viking,old Kirby,old uprights & old Hoover uprights but before Kenmore.

Coffee in my hoovah

I probably have eight or nine coffee can Hoovers ranging from 105 to 725. If you wanted a really functional coffee can - the 725 would be a great choice. It’s motor is smooth and powerful, and the beater bar set it apart from earlier models. If you wanted way cool looking showcase models, get the black paint motor earlier models.

The IEC Compact / Interstate line is breathtaking. So powerful, light, and extremely well engineered. I started with a Compact C6 with standard straight suction wand and tools. I just picked up my dream machine last weekend. Dream isn’t even accurate. Bucket list filler. It’s a 50th anniversary model with turbo brush power head. The exhaust filter makes it extremely quiet. Power head does a beautiful job. Price was $35. Small repair on hose, but otherwise great condition.

I have a good number of good royal uprights. I have a c9 mustard yellow with gold speckled attachments. I have a CXL great condition with black power nozzle with flat belt. The flat belt has more power than the gear type belt.
I'm no expert on hoovrahs but $50-$150 is my guess.
