I was noticing in someone's Posting, that they called the end of the Cleaner where the Suction area is, where the Hose attaches as being the Front End of the Vacuum Cleaner.

I've always thought/considered the Front of the Vacuum Cleaner to be the Blower/Exhaust end of the Cleaner.

To me, it seems like the Hose End is like a Tail on the Cleaner and the Blower/Exhaust looks more like a Head.

I mentioned this to someone and they agreed with me and that they've always thought the same as I do. The Front/Rear of the Electrolux Tank Cleaners being the opposite of what was being told by this other person.

Front and Rear

Well, if you think of a vacuum cleaner in terms of biological anatomy, then distinguishing between front and rear becomes clear .... Food comes in through the front, and out through the rear .... no?!

I have never thought of the exhaust end of a vacuum cleaner as being the front! Just doesn't make sense to me!!

I agree with Charles-Richard!

The hose end of the vacuum is like the front end of a car. As
you pull it along, it is moving forward and following you as you move forward in the vacuuming process!
Just my feelings!

That is true, but to me at least the Vacuum Cleaners look like the opposite ends are the opposite ends. Even though it is true, when it is put into perspective that Food and Drink go in one end and out the other, but the style of the Tank's to me are opposite in looks. This is just my opinion of how they look to me, no matter what goes in where or comes out where.

Look at the housing....

I agree with Charles-Richard and Norm. The main task of the Vacuum cleaner is to "vacuum" stuff. The Vacuum end of the cleaner would logically be the front.

This would seem to be borne out in the actual asthetic design of the these machines --- especially the earlier ones.

For example...the design of the Electrolux Model XXX gives much more attention and decor to the suction end of the machine than it does to the exhaust. So does the Kenmore Commander which adorns the suction end with a polished aluminum cover but the exhaust is simply made of the same material as the rest of the machine.

Later Electroluxes AE, AF, G all have "Automatic," written on the suction end, and once again it seems to be highlighted in a way that the exhaust is not. And again with the 1205 and it's later variations...the suction end has a speical color to the cover, and the controls sit attractively on the top of the cover to the suction end.

Seems from these observations that the manufacturers intend to highlight the suction part of the machine as the important thing.

It's not a big deal, but I see Steves point. Take the Electrolux model LX. The cordwinder looks like a head and the hose looks like a tail.

Well, I'm guessing that we can all just think what we want, that way no body Looses and everybody Wins.

I don't want anyone to think that this is getting out of hand, I just wanted to voice my opinion as to what I thought of what was the front and what was the back or rear of the Tank Electrolux Vacuum Cleaners.

I Completely Agree with Steve

You and I are of the same mind. And I think I know why I will always consider the blower end of the generation of Eluxes that ended with the Model L to be the fronts of the machines. First of all, even though the suction end is the business end of the machine, anatomically, it looks more like a rear-end than the front ever could. When an electrolux has its cord winder attached, the blower end looks even more like an animal's head (with a neck yet) than the suction end could. Also, Electrolux itself seems to agree with us, because that's where the power switch always is and the the larger wheels seem to imply the front of the unit.

Finally, to a child, which is what I was when I first became fascinated with vacs, when the hose is attached to the unit it bears an unmistakable similarity to a tail.
