I got my rainbow back today from getting serviced, they put new motor brushes and new middle and top bearing in it and cleaned it. It runs ALOT quieter than it did before service. When it winds down there is ALOT of squeaking, I know some squeaking is normal with the SE. Is there a breaking in period for the brushes and bearings?

there should be no squeaking period. if it was serviced properly the wind down should be smooth with very little (carbon brushes) to no noise. the D4 (SE) machines were known for lower bearings due to them not being completely sealed off from moisture.

I would think it was serviced properly. I sent it to the authorized service center in Hagerstown MD that I have been dealing with for many many years. They serviced it 6 years ago and put in a new bottom bearing and turned the armature and I had no issues when I got it back. I'm going to give them a call tomorrow.

I think I have pinpointed the squeak to be in the top of the unit where the cooling fan is for the motor. Might just be possible something got a little over tightened. The squeaking as subsided some. Not going to worry to much about it unless it starts to get worse

I've heard carbon brushes lightly squeak before, this usually goes away once they seat themselves in all the way. I wouldn't worry about it, in my experience this is normal and will go away.
