I'm having trouble removing the Separator nut from the vac so I can clean the Separator. I sprayed WD40 a few times, let it sit overnight, but the nut still won't budge. What can I do?

btw, this is my 4th Chrome Dome Rainbow, & I LOVE it!

The water was VERY THICK after just doing only the living room; same result when I did the kitchen, & 2 bedrooms.

That meant I changed the water AFTER every room (4 times) Maybe the next round I won't have to change so often; but with dry South Texas soil (barely rains here), I'll still need to change very often.

At NW Ohio, where it rains quite often year round & snows in winter, I change the water a bit less than in TX.

The other 3 Chrome Domes (all three need serviced) are in OH, with a massive vac collection.

Try sliding a slender screwdriver shank (or other heavy steel rod that will fit) through the hole in the separator nut to get some additional leverage while holding the separator.


 


That's a nice looking D2!

Use...

a real rust penetrant like PB Blaster or Liquid Wrench. WD40 is nothing more than spray silicone-a water displacer, hence the initials 'WD'.

A few updates:

I FINALLY got the nut off, but it broke.

At least I cleaned the Separator, which was full of dirt.

Now I have to get the rest of the nut out.

I also bought an AquaMate, a RainbowMate & a new non-electric hose (the old one is quite stiff), and waiting for a PN.

Using the original Squeegee is more fun & quieter than the loud FloorMate; but I like both the Rainbow & FloorMate.

The ONLY problem is, I have to use a bucket to pour the water/soap onto the floor & use elbow grease, & the floor doesn't dry as good as the Floormate.

Eric,
Years ago we had a D2 at my store. Here is how we were shown by the Rexair dealer to wash and clean the tile floors:

(1) start with almost NO water in basin
(2) fill Rainbow sprayer with floor cleaner concentrate and apply using the sprayer.
no need to flood the floor. Let the floor cleaner set for a few seconds to dissolve the dirt.
(3) use the 3 sections of the wands with the floor brush to scrub the wet floor
You are using ONLY the wands-with no hose and Rainbow off
(4) insert hose into suction end and onto the wands with the squeegee on the bottom wand-now suck up the floor cleaner and dry the floor at the same time.
(5) the Rainbow squeegee is so easy to use because it it smaller and will fit under and around furiture so easy. Remember that the floor cleaner is very concentrated so you don't need to "flood" the floor.
I have used this method with a lot of success on both tile,cement and sreened porch floors.

The new Rainbow has a brand new attachment called the "Rainbowjet" which has it'own pump to power spray the solution.

Once you get on how to do this process I think you will enjoy how speedy the work is done.

Sorry I hit the wrong key for your name!
If you are doing a filthy floor (like the garage) I have used spic & span too with great success.
I found this process to work so much easier than the floormate just because you already have the Rainbow out to dry clean the floor first and the squeegee fits under and around the furniture so much easier than the floormate and of couse the D2 is much quieter.
When I have finished I pick up a little HOT water to clean the Rainbow hose and wands and let the air flow dry them. If you are needing to empty the basin multiple times you may be using too much floor cleaner as it is very concetrated. I hope this helps.

I have the D2A (later dark brown version listed for wet pickup). It works awesome with the aquamate I, see my other thread on aquamate I vs II vs III.

I think the motor needs serviced; it growls when I turn the vac off.

I'll probably leave it to someone here who is experienced in Rainbow vacs? I've messed up one motor & can't afford to do it again.

Mine makes odd noises when I shut it off. Sometimes it winds down smooth, other times with vibration or squeaking. Is this a sign of dry bearings?

If I can't get the rest of the broken nut out, I don't know if I should change the armature? Or should I get a drill & pull out the rest of the nut shaft?

Are these armatures EXACTLY the same?

Those armatures are expensive; but I think the motors are more expensive?

I see many D2s with R-1650 Power Nozzles at the vac shop; I wonder why not the Eureka-built R-1024?

So I bought a R-4375 PN but I wonder if the rectangular PN cleans better than the PN-2? Since I don't have a PN2, I really can't say how it performs.

My Chrome Dome has a 2-prong PN outlet.

If you find an R-1024 nozzle (type C or later), re-fit it with the all-aluminum Vibra-Groomer I brush roll.

I would think so since the VG-I was actually superior to the VG-II when used on the Sanitaire commercial uprights.

Color of Nozzle Shell Housing

Erik,

No. The plastic shell housing was white/cream. The only variations the R-1024 PN had owed to label designs.

From 1974 to 1976, the front label on the PN read "Rexair" in script, over a light woodgrain background.

From 1977 to 1978, over the same light woodgrain background, the "Rainbow" script was seen, replacing the "Rexair" script. A variation of this label design had a darker woodgrain background, and was seen on all R-1024s repaired after 1981.

From 1979 to early 1980, the label design changed to a solid dark brown background. In the middle were silver/yellow-orange gradient stripes, and above them was the same "Rainbow" script.

The final label design, used only during the spring and summer of 1980, was a simple retreading of the 1979-style label: the silver/yellow-orange gradient stripes were now near the top of the decal, with the "Rainbow" script in the center below them.

With the exception of the lower-end Roto-Matic Power Team nozzles (meaning: no automatic height adjustment), the only variant of this design with a different color for the motor shell housing was that of the TriStar Turbo Brush (cherrywood brown).

So I'm supposed to use only ONE capful of floor cleaning solution to a full sprayer jar of hot water?

I'll have to see if the newer squeegee does a better job drying the floor? All I need to do is get the squeegee adaptor to convert the AquaMate to wash bare floors; which I think may be easier to do.

btw, I haven't seen too many squeegee adaptors anywhere, is it a specialty item only?

I would use only about 1/2 cap full of floor cleaning concentrate in the spayer jar and fill up to top with water. The solution is very concentrated.

I've been using the D4SE with SqueegeeMate (AquaMate with squeegee tool attached) & 4-quart basin; & the water was pitch black once the basin is full.
