Hello,

I just picked up a Kirby Classic Omega from an estate auction. I need to admit I'm fully ignorant regarding vacuums, especially vintage, and Kirby. I got it cheap and it appears to be in great shape and came with the original attachment set. There is a small issue that it does not start at all when pressing the foot button located center, back of the unit.

The cord sheathing next to the plug is broken, but on the surface I don't see any broken wires. Other than that, I'm not sure what the issue might be and how much it will cost to fix.

Please let me know if you have any advice. I really do want to use this for my everyday vacuum!

Is the cleaning head or hose hooked up correctly on the front of the unit??? The Kirby will not run unless there is something hooked up on the front of the vacuum covering the fan blades. Good Luck

If the Owners Manual is present, read it thoroughly and familiarize yourself with the Kirby and all of its parts, and components, thats always a good first step!
As VacMan1961 said, the Kirby will not operate, unless the front head, hose or other attachment is attached correctly.
After swinging the hose end or other attachment, up over the air intake, you need to press down on the left side and then lock the attaching lock.
If this dosent work, take the machine to your favorite vacuum repair center. It may need a new safety switch, which is the little switch at the bottom of the air intake that keeps the Omega from operating unless its pressed down.
Its not uncommon for These switches will wear out with time.
