I had to replace the front fan cover which includes the serial number, since the original developed a crack. The part I received was supposed to be new but has K*********** serial number unlike the original 187********* serial number that belonged with the machine. Is the part I replaced it with a generic part number or did it belong to another machine( It looks brand new)? I know this machine is not very collectible but I like to keep things original and cleaned it up quite a bit, would it bother you if you came across a vacuum that had a rteplaced fan cover without the original serial number?

SO far I replaced the brushes on the motor
New switch
Cleaned the bag
Replaced the metal fan with a lexan one
New Fan cover
And went over it with some Mothers aluminum polish

I have to say the Vacuum is looking pretty good

Thanks Billy

Billy & Kirby fancase...

Hello Billy.

It sounds like that would be a Genuine Kirby replacement fancase. If you are the original owner, then that number should've been registered with Kirby, with your name, for the Rebuild Program.

The only time a fancase was ever replaced with the 'exact serial number' [in my experience] was if it was found to be defective when rec'd from the factory or during warranty.

I hope this information helps.

Welcome to the forum (see link below). And, if I may assist you with any add'l Kirby parts you may want, let me know.

Cheers & hagwknd all,

Bill

My parents bought the vacuum new in 1987 when I was 7 years old so I have no clue if they registered it or not. I bought the fan case off of ebay. What is the Kirby rebuild program and how much does it cost? Can I register this new serial number? ( I still have the original broken fan case)

Billy, fancase & rebuild...

Hello Billy.

With not buying the fancase thru a Factory Authorized source, I don't know if you may register it or not.

As to your question regarding the Rebuild Program, this is a service that allows the original owner(s) to have their Kirby rebuilt to a 'like-new' condition, with 'current in production' parts for "X number of ($$$) dollars" thru the factory in Cleveland OH.

Unfortunately, this is as far as I can help you, as this particular time, is when Kirby was 'playing' with a few different scenarios of the "Rebuild Program." I don't remember the exact dates; as an example, one was as an option you had to specifically register for seperate from the regular warrantee. With proper paperwork, the Kirby Rebuild Department should be able to assist you. You may have to leave a message; however, they are very prompt in returning a call.

Here's the phone number for that dept: (216)433-7797

Check & make sure they (your parents) have their original paperwork.

I hope this helps answer your questions.

Plz send me an email regarding your other questions on any leads & I'll send you my contact info.

Cheers & hagwknd all,

Bill
