I admit I'm not a VC collector and probably will not become one, but
there seems to be a lot of knowledge here, and a bunch of polite and helpful
folks. I'd like to ask some questions.
I just acquired an Electrolux 1521 that seems to be in good condition.
The previous owner was abandoning it because of low suction.
I discovered the hose was clogged and removed the obstruction.
Now all seems fine, but I still have some questions.
First is identity. The only words on the tank are electrolux and automatic
control, with serial number J96419F. The power head has Electrolux Carpet
and Floor Power Nozzle and Omni-flo Automatic.
The bottom has PN6 and NJ03. The forum has a lot of model names that seem to
be special varieties of model 1521. what do the names and model number mean?
How old is this one?
I did not see a filter. Is there supposed to be one? There is a short
tunnel, about the diameter of the wand, behind the bag, apparently leading
to the motor. This would seem to be a natural place to have a filter. The
only manual I could find was for a similar looking model, and it did not
mention a filter, but did call the bag a filter bag. So is there a filter?
Are there any bags besides Electrolux that members recommend?
Any to avoid? Ditto for filters, if there are any.
I did not find any convenient way to remove the beater for cleaning or
replacement. I found five screws to remove the bottom plate, but that is
not enough. It seems like there are hidden tabs/latches/catches. Any
tricks? I can imagine at least 100 places to break something with trial and
error prying.
Thanks for any help, and happy collecting.
