I admit I'm not a VC collector and probably will not become one, but
there seems to be a lot of knowledge here, and a bunch of polite and helpful
folks. I'd like to ask some questions.

I just acquired an Electrolux 1521 that seems to be in good condition.
The previous owner was abandoning it because of low suction.
I discovered the hose was clogged and removed the obstruction.
Now all seems fine, but I still have some questions.

First is identity. The only words on the tank are electrolux and automatic
control, with serial number J96419F. The power head has Electrolux Carpet
and Floor Power Nozzle and Omni-flo Automatic.
The bottom has PN6 and NJ03. The forum has a lot of model names that seem to
be special varieties of model 1521. what do the names and model number mean?
How old is this one?

I did not see a filter. Is there supposed to be one? There is a short
tunnel, about the diameter of the wand, behind the bag, apparently leading
to the motor. This would seem to be a natural place to have a filter. The
only manual I could find was for a similar looking model, and it did not
mention a filter, but did call the bag a filter bag. So is there a filter?

Are there any bags besides Electrolux that members recommend?
Any to avoid? Ditto for filters, if there are any.

I did not find any convenient way to remove the beater for cleaning or
replacement. I found five screws to remove the bottom plate, but that is
not enough. It seems like there are hidden tabs/latches/catches. Any
tricks? I can imagine at least 100 places to break something with trial and
error prying.

Thanks for any help, and happy collecting.

Lux 1521

Hi, Chuck--Nathan here, I can help. Your Electrolux 1521 is a "Diamond Jubilee" model, which came out from 1985-1989 if I recall correctly. As for the Filter question, No, the older model of Electrolux's like the Diamond Jubilee, Silverado, Olympia, etc. do not have separate filters. I would recommend using high quality of bags, even if you have to pay more for them, as I have worked on a lot of machines whose owners didn't use good bags and the motors were very dirty, or were completely shot because a cheap bag burst and the vacuum sucked all that dirt into the motor and fans. To service your power head, you will need to remove the five screws from the bottom of it and then lift up from the rear of the cover to remove the cover. Sometimes they are a little hard to remove, but if you will lift up from the rear of the head, it should come off. You can then clean your roller brush. The roller brush is usually held in by a small screw on each end. Remove the screws and lift your roller brush out. You may have to tap it out if it seems to be hard to come out. An easy way to clean any string or whatever is wrapped around the brush roll is to take a razor blade and cut the string, it will come right off! For a more thorough cleaning it will have to come out and be washed with warm soapy water, and then dried with a hair dryer. Anyway, Chuck--I'm glad to help--if you have any more questions in regard to service let me know!
Sincerely,

I added a motor filter to my Silverado,It was very clean when I got it and had a Genuine Lux bag in it,I have lots of Genuine bags but they are old and I thought why not add a filter just in case one does break open,I used some window air conditioner filter material on hand,it is washable electrostatic blue fiber on one side and black foam on the other, just cut it to fit,It didn't work out for my a/c as it cut down the airflow but didn't seem to on the Lux or other vacs I've used it on,It was a little on the pricy side for an a/c filter but It went to good use. Enjoy your Electrolux,You might never have to buy another vacuum, with a little care they last forever.
