At a guess later 1970's

From what I know about PYE. The entered the vacuum cleaner market in Australia only in the late 1950's with the Rotovac. Australian made with a huge eureka rotomatic flavour. As we skidded into the 70's PYE put out many cleaners, far too many to list with all of them being Japanese made capsule type cleaners.
These capsule type machines were rebadged Sanyo, Hitachi but mostly Toshiba cleaners. The hose and tools usually give away the manufacturer.
In the late 60's they also put out a dirty fan stick vacuum and mid 70's an upright machine that I can only track down to be identical to the UK Douglas branded vac. I'm confident the stick vac was their own design.
Another give away with these capsule vacs is early 70's the wattage would have been around the 600 mark climbing to around 850 mark by early 80's.
There's very little info on PYE vacs around but they had quite a presence in Australia. I'm sure your vac was made by Sanyo.

I've attached a couple of pics on aussie PYE's. The first being the rotovac and in the second pic is a 1968 model once again with a striking resemblance to the Eureka but the Princess (I think) farthest away.
You'll all recognise the closest vac in the second pic as an excelsior / kenwood and rebranded as St james in OZ for David Jones department stores.
The second photo was taken from the vacuum department at David Jones Sydney department store 1968.

The Pye version of the Eureka Williams Roto-Matic is so close in design to the American original, that I bet Pye bought the rights to the design. The tools may have even been shipped from the USA as they are identical to those that came with the Eureka....unless the moulds were shipped to Australia.

There are not many vacs I need or want but I do like the Rotovac in pic 1.4 of the attachments are identical,except color,to Eureka with everything else being very close.

Ah! We had that as the Mcdonald Electric. But I am sensing the Scottish theme to the name Douglas / Mcdonald.

And that Douglas/Mcdonald/Pye upright looks identical to the American Whirlpool forunner of our famous Oreck...... Who came out with it first - USA or UK?

First of all, I do apologise about re-igniting this thread, but I found the original vacuum, plus it even has a cord retract, I am very much happy, and I would absolutely love to find a cord reel mechanism, for that machine
