Progress Minor G Vacuum Cleaner

Hi All, just wondered if anyone can help me with the background to this vacuum cleaner, please? Although the description label seems to be mostly in English, we know it comes from Germany. It belonged to my wife's grandmother, who lived in Kiel, so we guess it's probably dated somewhere between the 1950s - 1970s. The UK three-pin plug was added when my wife's parents brought it over to the UK. Despite its age, it's still in good working order. Were Progress a UK company or European? Are there many of this model still in existence?

Hi Walter,

Many thanks for your help. That fits in well with the history that the family know. It seems a shame to throw it away. Would it be worth putting it on ebay to see if it's worth anything to a collector?

Progress was not a budget brand at all. It used to be one of the most popular and biggest premium brands for vacuums, floorcare products and small appliances from the 1930s on. Progress was famous for their powerhead canisters and uprights which were of very good quality. They were bought by Electrolux Sweden around 1982 (or even earlier). Their Stuttgart-based factory closed down sometime in the late 80s.

Today, all that is left of Progress is the brand which is used for plastivacs of unknown origin.

Your machine should date back to 1973-1976.

Thank you, Sharky for the really helpful information in the link you sent on my Progress Minor G. I'll try advertising it on ebay and see what happens - though unfortunately no original box!
