premier duplex vacuum cleaner information request....

Hello, I have a premier duplex circa 1920's. Its in great shape and vacuums great. I want to know if anyone can give me a estimated value? Also does anyone have an owners manual for sale? I tried ebay but there are no premier duplex besides the handheld. ?Thank you for your time. Dave. [ its a model 53] is there a way to determine exact year of manufacture?

It was made between 1926 and 1928. The "Master Model" with red bumper was launched in 1928. Yours is not a Master Model. And Premier had to wait for Hoover's patents on the motor driven brush to expire in 1926. So it was made between those two years. Very nice machine. They made a ton of them because they also made them as a General Electric. It was originally polished aluminum, and when polished it would look great. The original bag was blue poka dotted with the Premier logo all over it in ovals. The original cord was cloth covered, and had the screw in 'plug' for connection to a light socket. It was built by General Electric with the Premier name on it. Premier was sold in vac shops and department stores, GE was sold in General Electric Appliance Shops. They cost $29 brand new.

Hi Tom.

I was under the impression that this was made at the P. A. Geier company in Cleveland, Ohio. I know that this was the parent company of Royal, and that they made the motor housings, and assorted parts for many uprights of that era. Brands like Health-Mor often farmed out a number of parts. P.A. Geier, of course, took no credit for these machines, simply did the castings, and other grunt work, then shipped them to the various companies for assembly. Electrolux did the same thing.

I have two Electrolux cordwinders for the models XXX and LX, that I thought except for the machine end of the cords, were exactly the same. Upon checking the first one to verify the manufacture which is indeed "The Vacuum Cleaner Corp. Phila, PA.."Stamped on the back it reads "Type T Cordomatic reel, patent pending." The other is identical but is stamped "Benjamin reel mod 8850-3, Cleveland, Ohio. Patent no. 2322038, other patents pending." Interesting!!
