I just ordered a new powerdrive belt for my power max machine. I installed the belt the way the manual said to do. So then I turned the machine on then flipped the Powerdrive switch on and then nothing. the belt spins on the pulley but the Powerdrive wheels don’t spin. Does anybody know what’s wrong or am I misssing something? Please help me get my machine running!

Flip on the power drive switch and recline the vacuum. Then, slide the handle grip back and forth. The system is designed such that if the vacuum has not been reclined, the power drive wheels will not turn.

If it still doesn't work, then you will need a new power drive unit.

No

That transmission is for a Hoover Windtunnel and will NOT fit your machine. Based on your situation, I am wondering if the cable that runs to the control arm has snapped. Recline the machine and move the handle up and down, you should see the bottom arm moving from left to right. If the control arm does not move, you have a bad handle cable.

Not surprised

This actually happened to a Concept U3109 that I repaired for my dentist. Unfortunately, I don't remember what kind of cable I used (Part #43211010 is now obsolete) The process went like this: 1. Take screw out of handle and remove the hand grip. 2. pull out the cable from the handle and remove it (Do NOT remove the plastic tube that the cable goes through) 3. Run some cable down the plastic tube that measures the same length as the old cable (plus the length that was attached to the arm) 4. Make a 90 degree bend in the cable and insert into the handle. 5. Enjoy!

Thank you so much! I took the vacuum apart and did not remove the plastic tube. What would I do with this little copper piece where the wire connects to. Do I remove the copper piece?

I apologize for the bad advice. I completely forgot that the cable could have failed. It did.

Did the cable snap internally? It looks to me like the cable end simply slipped out from the nut sandwiching it to the drive arm which swings back and forth on the front of the machine. If this is the case, I believe you would be able to simply loosen the nut and re-connect the cable.

As for the copper piece: it is a permanent part of the cable. The copper piece bends at 90 degrees and inserts into the handle grip. I was able to simply pull it straight out from my Hoover Concept's handle grip with a pair of needle-nosed pliers.

Good luck!

Eh,

If the cable snapped off from the nut, it might be too short to get the full range of motion in the powerdrive and shifts won't really do much. If you get some steel cable, you can feed it into the tube and reconnect it to the arm and handle. You need to get cable that matches the diameter of the copper piece so that it will fit into the handle.

I have a Hoover Power Drive U6311 that also has a DOA propulsion system, I am wondering if mine has this same issue. I'll have to check it out.
