U2662 Turbopower Freedom

The bag was replaced by a filtration system, contained in the upper part of the front panel, with a dust collecting box in the lower part...

U2662 Turbopower Freedom

as can be seen in the above picture and the one below, the system wasnt actually that good at retaining dust, with a proportion of dust sucked in by the cleaner, escaping through the filter and back into the atmosphere - hence the nice layer of sust on the grilles in front of the filter.

The filters were fiddly to fit and any inaccuracies in the fitting would produce gaps, with consequential leakage of dust.

The Permabag system will be covered in greater detail, when we reach the Turbomasters!

U2716 Turbopower Boost

The next model number was actually the mid range machine in the 1991 series, boasting the ability to bosst the power of the machine.

The colour was Stellar White, which unfortuantely goes to cream over time....

U2718 Turbopower Boost

with Autoflex!

This was the next model up and was the machine that sold beneath the top of the range Freedom U2662...

U2724 Turbopower

Next was the budget machines, starting with the primitive U2724 and its 450watts of power, rather than the U2716/U2718's 575watts.

The colour scheme was Stellar Red...

U2798 Turbopower

Big jump in model numbers (for some reason) takes us upto the Total System version of the U2724.
Colour scheme was Stellar Red and Dijon Grey.

Apologies for the spine down the middle of the photo...

Back to U2602 briefly

Just a note again on this model:
the U2602 Total System was still in production and appeared in the brochures alongside the 1991 series of models and remained on sale into the mid 90's.

U2806 Turbopower version1

This model replaced the U2724 in the mid 1990s and, in its Venus Blue and Dijon Grey version, was the last modification to the CORE range of models....

U2806 Turbopower version2

In Stellar Red and Dijon Grey, this was the Mail order only version of model U2806 and came with a complimentary box of tools.
The machine below is virtually as new and came in its original box...

U2864 - mystery model

I dont have a photo of this model and know little of it, other than that it appeared in Stellar White and Dijon Grey.

U2866 Turbopower (Total System)

In Venus Blue and Dijon Grey, I am fairly sure that this was an Argos exclusive model...

U2872 Turbopower (Total System)

In unusual Aubergine and Dijon Grey, I have an inkling that this was another exclusive model, but sold through which outlet is a mystery...

UB070 Turbopower Plus

This model was one of two Turbopower 1's that adoped the new model numbering scheme.

Dont know much about it, other than what you can see in the photograph, with thanks to the photographs owner...

UB088 Turbopower Plus

As with the UB070, other than what you can see, I dont know much about this model.

This is the last Turbopower 1 model to be covered in this thread, though other versions and models were sold elsewhere in the world - I wont be dealing with those:-)...

That, as far as I know, is all the Turbo1 models that were sold in the UK. If anyone knows different or can add details of others, then please do. It will be interesting to know if there were!

New models to cover from tomorrow, starting with the Turbolite.

Cheers
Paul

Hi Chris.

Thanks for the pictures you have posted.

Re: the black machine - the colour would associate that machine with being a version of U2408, which is officially described as being Black Tulip shadow and Gloss Black. There being no other black turbopowers listed, I would assume its this model.
Maybe model U2408 was THE exclusive model, with the Black version being produced for Littlewoods and the other two versions (the matt blue/grey and later white) being produced for Argos. Its a theory anyway.

I think I agree with you re: your photo of the white Turbopower. Its colouring and date would definitely make it being a U2864 a distinct possibility.

Fingers crosed we shall be able to confirm them all one day.

Thanks again.
Paul

The very budget cleaner!

A new model was introduced, sitting beneath the Turbopower Juniors in the overall range.

Continuing the 'turbo' theme, these models were christened the Turbolite.

The standard model was model U4527...
