The hoover 4101 I think?? This does not have a sticker on the bottom as it is old. This was my mothers Vacuum cleaner When she moved in with me, She was going to throw it out! She didnt have a chance! LOL

Nice vacs, that's about how many I had a little over a year ago, now I'm tripping over them LOL.. I'm partial to those Eureka's about the same as I am to convertibles. They seem to be a little harder to find as well, around here.

I like The Eureka. Hoover convertables are such a sought after Machine, and the prices of them GO SO HIGH!!

Well, Petek I know what you mean about the Eurekas, even though I live in the UK. I mean the Hoover Convertible was effectively the Volkswagen Beetle of upright vacuums wasn't it? ie you can find them anywhere, especially in America..made so many of the damn things for so long, its the same with the Hoover Junior in this country.

Did they sell Eurekas in the UK? For some odd reason unknown canister vacs were always bigger sellers in Canada than uprights ever were as opposed to the US which was the reverse supposedly. Hoover was undoubtedly #1 but it's hard to say if Eureka or Kenmore was #2. I'd even go as far as saying Kenmore displaced Hoover at some point as the top selling brand in Canada. Eureka was often sold as a rebadged dept store brand, either as Eatons (Viking) or the Hudson Bay Co. (Baycrest, Beaumark) can't remember which. I think it was Eatons, The Bay rebadged Hoovers me thinks.

Green Eureka

The green Eureka dates from 1975-76 and would be the tail end of the metal base models. I have a Bennett Brother blue book with that model in it.
I don't know the Eureka models very well at all, as by that time Eureka had so many models it was hard to keep track.

As to who was #1 in the USA, I'd say Hoover was for many years, and its a tough call as to who would be #2. Eureka for uprights probably, although when it came to canisters Kenmore was #1 at least until the Hoover Celebrity P/N came out.
Eureka just quietly prospered. Their deluxe machines were very nice, well made and durable, but when they introduced the blender motor 1400 series their quality slipped.

The golden bagged Eurekas are one of the nicest looking "back of handle bag" uprights, in my eyes anyways. Dare I say nicer looking than a convertible. Especially the all gold Vanguard ones.

I agree Pete! Hoover had the colorful machines, but Eureka had the lookers with the chrome hoods and the box top bags.

I wonder if they were made too look nice, so people could leave them set out? Or Were they made too look nice too try and convince the public what a wonderful vacuum it was. I don't know I'm making sense..lol

No Eureka's in the UK i'm afraid, not back then, back then we had good Electroluxes now we just have rebadged Eureka's as Electroluxes.

Scooter, that green Eureka is my favorite of yours. Made after the introduction of the ball-bearing Vibra-Groomer and before the widespread use of plastic bases and fans makes this one of the most durable uprights ever! The double (sealed) ball-bearings on the 3.5 amp motor, sealed bearings on the Vibra-Groomer and the wide range on the "Rugulator" give this cleaner quite an edge over a Hoover Convertible. Unfortunately only the deluxe models had the ball-bearing Vibra-Groomer, and once the 1400's came around you had to get a TOL model to get the good heavy-duty motor.

I have a feeling that Eureka uprights were very popular in these parts (texas). When i was a child, MANY folks had Eurekas, but i've had better luck finding Hoover Convertibles nowadays in the thrift shops.

That green Eureka is a GEM, and to think that many many parts for it are still current after all these years! Change the Vibra-Groomer to double-brushes for extra oomph on your heaviest plushes AND glued-down commercial-style carpeting!

Where would i get one of these double brush rollers? I have to say that This is also my pick as well. It purrs like a kitten.

i think that cleaner should have the aluminum Vibra-Groomer I. on that agitator the beater bars can slide out and another set of brushes slid into place.

i like beater bars for most situations, but on very heavy rugs or glued-down carpeting, double-brushes are more effective.
