Has anyone seen the Perfect Canister vacuum??? It looks just like an old Electrolux. anyone have one???

I think

They are pretty much identical to the old Electroluxes, except the automatic control is not available, evidently Aerus still holds the patent and wont let it go,I wonder why everyone lists tank cleaners as canisters now days!??

Conflating tank and canister

I think because the canonical "canister" - like the Panasonic, Miele, Riccar and Sebo models - is kind of a hybrid of the two, and there aren't too many tanks still on the market, other than the Perfect and the current Aerus models.

There're still a lot of classic canisters, though... Wonder why 'tank' didn't catch on?

The Perfect itself

I've heard good things about it, but I have a hard time justifying that price for a made-in-China copy. For that much, I could have a Tristar or a Filter Queen, and I know how well they're made.

Perfect Vacuum

My mother and I both have one, they are extremely powerful vacuums and are very similar to the old metal body Electrolux vacuums, however I do believe they are Chinese made and from reviews I've read, certainly don't have the longevity the original Luxes had. I have turned mine on maybe twice and only used for short jots, but mom uses hers weekly. Her big complaints are that the cord retractor doesn't work good, and the attachments (except PN) feel flimsy. I give her a set of Electrolux wands and attachments, and she is more satisfied with it. She has been using hers for over a year now without any problems, but I bought her a new Aerus Legacy to have as backup "just in case!"

Tank canister? potato pototo.

I don't know to me there are two kinds of vacuums out there.. Canister and upright. I am a canister fan. I don't use uprights. My Dad uses the term "tank" so I don't know My Aunt calls her couch the "Davenport" and her stereo the "HiFI"

I agree the price is quite high if made in China. It does look cool though. Is the Tristar still made.

Re Tank vs canister..

Tank was the term used to begin with when Electrolux introduced their first cleaner sold here in 1924, when the Rexair and Filter Queen came along they were called ,"pot" cleaners, canisters really took off in the 50s.I refer to any cleaner with a hose as either tank or canister...tank if it is a cylinder, which is what most of them are called in Europe, and any box or round shaped machine a tank, Electolux used to say they made only tank cleaners,in some of there old newsletters they showed prototype canisters, which they called canisters...I guess im just old fashioned..LOL!

The Tristar is indeed still made, though the newer ones are a fair bit different. I really think the CXL/DXL were the best Tristars made. The newer ones aren't bad, but they're almost like a weird Tristar/Electrolux hybrid. (Not surprising - Aerus owns them now)

Those AWFUL!

Plastic wands ruin it and the Aerus for me, that and that bulky pistol grip, I much prefer the old Compact and Electrolux attachments, the Compact floor brush is to my mind, the best ever.here is my 20th anniversary, 1957 flat lid Compact.

Pretty. I like the old units. If it is metal it is good. Could someone post a picture of the latest one??? I would love to see one. thanks so much Mike.

Here's an ebay link to a current-model MG2. They're a mix of metal and plastic now. My least favorite feature is those dang plastic wands. That, and the single-stage, 12 amp screamer motor. It's effective but loud.

That said, I think if you paired an MG2 with a metal wand and a Wessel Werk or Tacony power nozzle, it'd be pretty darn good.

Perfect power team

It has some rather impressive motor specs to it they also have a plastic lighter weight version which i've seen with both a power nozzle and a turbine head. The brushroll also seems like an improvement.

Regarding the tristars the older models were definitely superior the CS uses a JEI motor which is more powerful than the MG2 but still would probably have lower airflow than the older models.
Here's my baird meter readings
Tristar CXL 5/10(dual stage ametek)
Tristar EXL 4.5 (uses the same motor as the lux 6500 with a front tapered fan)
Tristar MG2 1.5 (VM3 same motor as the lux guardian)
The CS should have 43cfm to it i'm not sure where this measurement is taken though.

do you think that they will someday go away from the single stage screaming motor and back to the slow slinging motor like in the old rainbow? what is the future of the vacuum motor?? will there always be a good vacuum made???? even 20 years from now??

Perfects

aren't that great, many are returned because of problems from cordreel to motor and powerhead and quality of some parts.

Well, if they don't change their designs too radically, there'll still be Filter Queen and Silver King in 20 years, I'll bet, and those will still be decent.
