Hi all,

I am looking for the spring part that comes out of the handle just under the switch. the cord passes through it going into handle. it is illustrated on page 6 of the 700 instruction manual. fig 9. cost and postage is not an issue.

Many thanks!!!

NOT HAVING MUCH LUCK WITH THIS THREAD. I THOUGHT MAYBE A PICTURE WOULD HELP.

DONT REALLY CARE WHAT I HAVE TO PAY.

I WOULD LOVE TO GIVE MY 700 A PHOTO SHOOT FOR A THREAD BUT WOULD LIKE IT TO BE PERFECT BEFORE DOING THAT. THERE IS A 700 ON EBAY BUT SELLER IS LESS THAN COOPERTIVE TO SAY THE LEAST. I OFFERED A GOOD PRICE FOR THE SPRING PART I NEED BUT HE WAS UNWILLING.

OH WELL MAYBE SOMEONE WILL ANSWER ME SOON.

GARY.

sorry not to be able to help you...

Listen Gary, I would suggest you to find a replacement spring ( also not easy, REALLY ) as it's difficult to find an original ...I had a similar problem with mine, as while removing an awful white cord from my 700, the spring disintegrated into many pieces ( probably the iron was gone ). In my case I replaced it with a black rubber cable holder that you can easily find on the electric market ( repair shops )...anyway consider that the type of spring should be the same that you find on many old Hoovers , on the cable that goes from the motor base to the handle ( Hoover 912, 160, 262, 612, 638 ) even if in many cases they have been removed and replaced with rubber tubes or sometimes with nothing but black tape...If I was you I would try to adapt one of those springs as soon as you come across one of this old models for parts.

Hi Guido,

I had a thought at work yesterday. I have a spring from the cord of an old 1920s iron. It worked like a charm!! It has the right age and look to it. I also decided to respray the handle before installing. During prep for the respray i thought i would wire wool the cord clips.( a bit rusty) I thought they would need respraying also but i was surprised to see they came up like new so no chance of painting over those.

I am so pleased the way it turned out. I plan to give her a photoshoot soon and post them for all to see.

Gary.

i think i will leave vacuumland when my upgraded membership expires. i have just lost interest in this hobby. always wanted to meet other people with the same interest to no avail. i never seem to get many if any responses to my threads. maybe collectors of vacs just keep to themselves.
