What wonderful machines - the Hoover 925 is my favorite of the "coffee can" series. It's an absolutely stunning machine.

And OMG - that Westinghouse ... does it have a cord reel in the handle? I thought only Singer and Hoover ever did that (with vintage machines, I mean). Wow, what a discovery!

I'm glad you like the machines and my attempts to improvise.

Sorry for the slow reply but I've been on 12 hour shifts for the last three days so I'm getting home rather tired to check emails...but at least I'm off tomorrow!

I could have fitted a non-standard switch on the first machine shown above (don't know its name yet!) but wanted to keep it as original as possible, bearing in mind it's for my own collection.

Charles, the Westinghouse was indeed a splendid find and runs well with a very decent suction, which is especially good without the missing bag!
It's the only one I've seen of this type.

Forgot to mention..

Charles I forgot to mention that the Westinghouse machine does have a cord reel in the handle and that the flex retracts when you pull on the string.
