This is what I was told by a former Packard dealer....
This machine was made by I believe Clements Manufacturing Company in Chicago. They also made Lincoln and Cadillac models. That's not a joke. They also made another model called the "Liberty" as well.
I know I used to have a LIBERTY one years ago when I was far younger. I didn't work very well, and I believe it shocked me at some point, which after the cord was cut by parental figure...and...found it's way to the dump along with other machines my mother tired of seeing around the place after awhile....
That said....
A former old school Packard dealer a few years back here in Ypsilanti at the "Orphan Classic Car Show" had one on display with his 1929 Twin Six Convertible sedan. I of course beelined over and began a conversation with him.
He explained that these were available for sale thru Packard dealerships during the 1920's and 30's. Not all dealers carried the machine, and it wasn't necessarily sanctioned by the PMCC (Packard Motor Car Company ) either.
Many dealers tried sideline businesses during the depression, and other small ups and downs. And the Packard vacuum fit in that scheme.
Do I believe him...?
Anyone else out there have info on the Packard vacuum and why it existed???
