It think its clever really. Its not that bad. There are so many of those, there are probably 10+ for every collector that wants one. The wiring job could probably have been done a bit neater, but that is my only complaint. I think the original wheels on the LXI were uglier than the wheels on this rig. It probably slides really nice too since all the wheels swivel.
 
I'm not appalled but am dissapointed - he almost got it

Were I to do all that upgrading that required dis-assembly of the entire carcass - which is a great idea - to a spare deserving XXX or LX you can be sure the PN cord would be routed inside and the socket mounted neatly sunk into the body so as to appear 'factory'.

Someone did go to a sincere well-meant sum of trouble to make these modifications but didn't think it through. The rear casters are too far forward and ahead of the motor mass so the ass will swing wide around corners and drag when yanked by the hose.

It is well and neatly done as far as it goes but $200? I think not.

Back in the day, Alden's catalog sold Metropolitan rebuilt XXX's and other models. I cut a picture of one out once, thought I kept it but can't find it now ( heck - that was forty years ago)...anyway, they had mounted four swivel casters where the runners attach. Obviously very small mounting studs, but caused no harm to the body of the machine. Of course it had also been painted hammertone blue with new blue wallpaper. Surprisingly, it didn't look too bad.

Wish I had not lost that picture.

I Remember That!

Spiegels used to sell Luxes rebuilt by Metro, too. And when we would get a new Alden's or Spiegel's catalog in the mail, the vacuums was always the first thing I'd look at, followed by movie projectors, hair clippers, and lawn mowers.

It is most definitely an abomination, but nothing like Rocketwarrior used to do to create his so-called "art." This guy went to such lengths to add a power nozzle to this unit, too bad he didn't throw in a converter so it accommodates disposable bags! I used to like some of the Lux XXX's refurbished by Metropolitan, sadly there is no one who does it today.
 
Ya know, as quiet as the XXX is, together it would really sound odd I am sure. Take away from that very serene sound totally, NO FUN!
 
"Wheel Job" on a TripleX? Oh boy-and the powernozzle mod-definitely NOT a collector vacuum.I do have A LX that has "clamp on wheels"that go over the sled runners.The wheels on the modded or "pimpted" vac are too small-the machine is going to be stopped cold by carpet edges,door threshholds and even its own cord.Thats my beef with most canister vacs-their wheels can't go over common home floor obsticles---Bring back the BIG WHEEL!!
 
XXX-Rated Modifications

It is my observation that the after-market, clamped on wheels on an LX are fugly, can shift, and as Rex pointed out, are generally not 'up' to the job. The factory change in the LXI is better but again with little clearance, the purpose clearly being to 'assist' rather than jet (roll!) If I were to desecrate a 30 or XXX and add a P/N outlet, it would be very carefully and strategically installed in the chrome side-rails/badge where the wires could be hidden AND the machine could be restored to the way God originally intended it to be. In its natural state, the 30 is a gorgeous, functional, well-thought-out machine. LONG (LAWNG!) LIVE THE 30!!! (How many Oxygens are we expecting to see in 75 years??!!)

Well, I do have 7even LXs (2wo with the clamp-on wheels) and

Shriek with Indignation if you must, but...

One of my future dream projects is to imbed a two-pin PN socket just below the parallel-hinged hose inlet of a modified 4 fan LX, in the 1/2" rubber floor bumper (running the cable through the hinge inside the body) so that the ejection action is in no way impaired or degraded and all one would then need do is connect a suitable pigtail hose - with finger control microswitch, of course - and associated Electrolux PN-1. This 'could' be a contender in the Monster Vac competition if seamlessly done...or win the Best Of 'It Coulda Been' category.

With this many examples of the LX and LXI true variations on view I have no guilt about creating a Davy Hybrid from a spare.

My XXX has very little suction. Is this normal for this model? I even emptied and washed the cloth filter bag and it still hardly sucks LOL Can someone please tell me what seems to be the problem if there is one at all?

The rubber that lines the inside of the hose is probably deteriorated. You can line it with liquid latex. Put your hand on the intake and see if the suction is stronger than it is at hose end. If suction is strong at the machine/weak at the hose end it probably needs a latex treatment.
 
If its not the hose, it might be the rubber motor gasket. You might want to check that if the suction is weak at the machine itself.
