oreck xl restaurant edition belt problem!

I recently purchased almost brand new oreck xl restaurant edition.

The belt is giving me a headache!

I religiously maintain this vacuum!

I barely use this vacuum, but recently I vacuumed my room and hair from the carpet jammed the brush roll causing the belt to burn, smelled like burn rubber, why is this oreck so sensitive. I thought it was restaurant edition, therefore longer life, but I was wrong, by the way, I have shag carpet floor, is this the reason? I don't want my oreck to die,

I changed the belt 15 days ago & now new belt is burned from the inside. I can't change belts 2x a month.


Lastly, today I vacuumed for only 10min with the new belt and the vacuum belt shaft got extremely hot, is there a way to fix this, if possible, I would add a cooling fan, lol.

Sounds to me like there is an obstruction to the brush roll causing the belt to have to work very hard to keep it spinning.

Take the belt off and refit the brush roll and try spinning it by hand. It should spin freely. If there is any resistance then that could be your problem.

There is a certain degree of normal when the motor shaft gets hot while vacuuming. There is always some slippage even if everything is working perfectly.

You didn't mention the type of carpet you were cleaning with your Oreck, but I do know thy don't handle Shag/Frizze very well, they also don't do too well on a thicker plush. They do much better on lower pile flat carpeting, as this is what they were designed for.

There's probably hair built up under the bearings on the brushroll, hindering the rotation of the brushroll. Take the end caps off and see if the bearings spin freely. If not, try taking an exacto knive or similar small blade and try cutting the hair out from under the bearings..could be you need a new brushroll. If you do, go through a supplier like Hesco, or if you have a contact in a vacuum store see if they'll get you one at a discount, otherwise they're about forty bucks at Oreck.

Check the bearings on the brushroll like the previous poster mentioned. This is what happened to one of mine...burned up the belts like crazy, ended up getting another brushroll, problem solved.
