*****coming to***** slowly........

Hey.

What happened?

Did I miss anything?

I was waiting for Dave's pics and I suddenly felt all dizzy and sweaty with anxiety and then I blacked out....had a horrible nightmare....was being strangled by the hoses of a gang of Hoovers and Airways and Luxes.....but then an army of Princesses and Empresses and Vanguards and Excaliburs came and rescued me....all led by a powerful black captain wearing a skin-tight soft bag shirt with the words "The Boss" emblazoned across his chest......and then I saw them.....a fleet of Green and Blue Mobile-Aires.....sailing through the sky....and sucking me up to Eureka heaven.....

Then the phone rang.....$&#$%@##%#%!!!!!!!!!

Oh, how I wish I'd have stumbled by here sooner!

Dave,

At the risk of sounding too forward, I honestly wish that I'd have stopped by here earlier -- then I'd have known that you were going to be passing through my humble hometown ... and I would have extended to you an invite to stop by! As I'm relatively new around these here parts I'm looking forward to meeting VCCC members in any way possible. Well ... maybe next time. Next time you'll be in the Buffalo area, would you drop me a line? Hope to hear from you soon!

BTW - nice finds!

Yes Brian, I'm sorry - you missed it all. And it was exactly like you said. Only the captain wasn't wearing a shirt. The red "Boss" was tattooed on his chest.

And Dave chose this thread to use his magic "disappearing pixels" so that no evidence of posted pictures remain....

The man has no heart.

At last, the Ham Brothers in all their muscular glory.

I do have a special affection for these all metal 50s Eurekas - they had such style! I think of Eurekas as the Chrysler, Dodge & DeSoto vacuums of their day. Similarly I ascribe other Automobile Brands to other vacuums, such as Electroluxs were the Chevrolets and Pontiacs, Hoovers were the Buicks and Oldsmobiles, GEs were Fords & Mercurys, the Roll-Easy was the Thunderbird.

Royals and Kirbys are the Studebakers and Ramblers with their old fashioned looks, Filter Queens are utilitarian Willeys & Jeeps & Checkers and exotic vacuums like the Modern Hygiene and Singer tubs & hams & S upright are the low-slung Syle Leaders - the Tuckers, Hudsons and bathtub Nashs. Compacts and the Haleys Comet are from Outer Space...

It's too easy to simply nominate an ugly vacuum. :-)

Since the Edsel was introduced in late 1957, had one re-design and was defunct in 1960 we are talking about a machine in the late 50s time span with dubious design appeal resulting in low sales that was in production less than three years. It certainly did not initiate a financial or quality downturn in the Ford Company's future.

I chose the Westinghouse not only for it's questionable and awkward looks but also for it's short lifespan and relative scarcity today. I've only ever seen one, it was on Ebay this past year and sold for quite a dear and earned price. I wanted it for it's oddity-appeal and it was just over in the Detroit area but had to drop out as the bids skyrocketed.

What else is Dave up to today?

In the fervent flurry of re-organizing and cleaning up the house and various collections many square and round pegs have found their way into the correct holes thre first time. It all seems so obvious now..

So anyway, yeah, I finally jumped on the widescreen LCD wagon when the Samsung 46"ers went on sale at Sears. To my eye it had the superior picture of all those other models on display...and I did spend an afternoon playing with controls and watching my own discs for comparison.

Then I made that trip to Syracuse and Greene and Oneida.

On the way back I stopped at Best Buy in Buffalo to get some Tim Hortons in the america-only XXX large size for the 2.5 hour drive home. I had seen these long slim 'soundbar' speaker solutions for improving the quality of basic teensy TV speakers - one doesn't always want to turn on the whole surround system just to watch the news. I auditioned several of the soundbar systems and in the end decided to get the Samsung one that matches the new TV. It has a wireless subwoofer that definitely rivals my surround setup. And one less wiring run to deal with. The young lady serving me was very patient and informative and when I made my decision she directed me to an open box one that had been returned that morning. 10% off the already on sale price and I was elated. On top of that I picked up the Samsung Blu-Ray player on sale 'cause I liked the flat flipdown faceplate looks.

However, with the organizing disarray about the house I knew this new equipment would all be kept boxed up for days if not weeks until I clear the livingroom clutter and could figure out what to do with the old TVs mentioned previously.

I'd reached the point of accepting that the 30" widescreen tube model on the floor could just stay there, as it sits over one of the furnace cold air return grates and helps support the 'floating' window shelf. It replaced the 28" RCA Colortrack 2000 6 years ago that had occupied that space since 1987.
