I'm more aimed towards older vacuums. The newer models are not as nice as you think they would.

Vacuumfreeke, I can tell you have older Hoover and Eureka products. I'm in the need to look for an older Bissell, because the newer models, the brand gotten cheaper.

I prefer older vacuums-easier to use, less breakdowns, do my own maitenance, and lasts much longer.

Vacman117, you said your mom would never buy a new vacuum again, why is that?

FantomLightning, do you prefer older vacuums? I know you aodre the Elites, Kenmores, even the Bissells, whether it be an older or newer model.


Please help me find an older vacuum for my home. I'm tired of dragging my Windtunnel and Powerforce up and down the stairs, even though the Bissell is lighter.

All you need is a Sanitaire and a Tristar CXL really, the Sanitaire for good, hard carper-beating deep cleaning, and the Tristar for cleaning between the Sanitaire's runs and above-floor cleaning, leaving all the other vacs for just playing with...

By the time Bissell got into the vacuum market plastic parts were the norm. New Bissells are not that much worse than they were years ago. They have some pretty powerful uprights right now.

If you think a Windtunnel and a Powerforce is heavy a vintage vacuum will be even worse. Those two models are some of better box store models anyway. Try finding some models you like and keep one upstairs and one downstairs. I currently use my Dyson downstairs and my Hoover Elite upstairs.

With vintage vacs it is really up to what you enjoy. I don't like older Electrolux uprights but some people use them daily. It is very hard to suggest a vintage vacuum not knowning your taste too well.

I know what you mean about Bissell converting into plastic all-around machines. How would the older Bissells be much worse?

My dad doesn't have the money for an upstairs vacuum. I brought the Bissell and Hoover downstairs before I left for my 3-day vacation.

The thing that gets me about Bissell are the bare faced marketing lies. In the UK whenever their carpet washers are being sold, sellers claim that Bissell have had a great reputation since the 1800's based on the only machine they had on their books being a mechanical push sweeper! They only started producing the carpet washer uprights in the 1990s, (and most of these were PRC) so they're not as "old" as they make out to be when it comes to their wash vacuums. I have an old leaflet of theirs from the late 1970's - shows off two mechanical push carpet shampooers, a carpet sweeper and a couple of cans of spray liquid with a brush head for on the spot cleaning. No vacuums featured, no washer uprights.

sebofan , what bissel carpet cleaner do you have, I have the pro heat x 2 and it cleans carpets really well but is useless on the furniture , water and suction are week but no matter how long you are busy the water comes out cold. I have 3 and they all do the same thing but on the carpet you can see the steam rising

Oh. I know for a fact Bissell launched their upright extractors in 1997. Their first model was the Powersteamer series.

I have a Dirtlifter 1622E. It does a great job on carpets but leaves trail marks, no hose on the back so you can't do upholstery with it and has only just been returned by Bissell UK following handle/trigger problems I've been having with it. I'd say its a lot better on the back compared to the old fashioned Vax canister and straight suction head I had to use on carpets. Only other downside to the Bissell is that it doesn't actually suck up the carpet fibres that come off through washing NEW carpets, the roller brush is just a roller brush and the carpet fibres often end up clogging the non-removable channel at the front and coating the wheels.

It is my first Bissell upright washer though and I was initially disappointed to find out that the roller brush lacks a third level of brushes and just rolls the dirt out as opposed to being something a bit more tech like being able to suck up the fibres like a dry upright vacuum.

Try a Steamvac instead. They are the best if you are looking for a better deal than a rental machine, and my dad suggests one.

Sebo fan I totally agree with you on the brush thing, you constantly get clumps of fur and fluff bee chucked out the side. Other wise I love its cleaning power. Before this I had the original hoover steamvac. I would have bought another one but they are no longer available in our market

No, I just wouldn't - and the steamvac in the UK wasn't around unless Bissell marketed it differently. I've spoken to a lot of people who have bought second hand carpet washers and most have been abused, haven't been declogged - its not as simple with a dry vacuum cleaner.

When I want to spot clean carpets I just use my Sebo Duo P cleaning powder and sometimes the rug renovator/Sebo daisy brush. Works faster and doesn't require a lot of effort.

I agree i wouldn"t buy a second hand carpet cleaner unless you are prepaiered for a complete rebiuld . people often forget to clean them out so they start to rust in the motors.


 


And they can smell pretty funcky too

I don't like the idea of used carpet cleaner machines---what did the previous owner-user use it to clean off his floor??Don't care for rental ones,either.Get your own!

Buying it used is cheaper, and you can fix it yourself, if you're good at it.
