An unusual Miele has appeared on Ebay - what appears to be a 20 odd year old S255i that's been in a loft and is still as new.

Anyone have any info on this model? I found out that its the next model down from the rare Black Diamond S256

It appears to have a very unusual power selector which cycles through the power settings for each press of the foot pedal, but I haven't seen one of these before, and I am only guessing at early 90's for its date.

Top view showing control panel and lack of +/- controls. Its an unusual method of changing the power, where the centre pedal (with red light on it)  is pressed to cycle through the settings

That Junior will sell for BIG bucks! mark my words. This Miele could make a fair bit as well - how often do you see old vacs like these come up - unused? That's why it pays now, to buy models of vac and put them away for 20-30 years, then get them down again and see the interest they cause.

Indeed :)
You should get the junior cos you do a good job looking after vacs and cos it's in Birmingham u can meet ur mates up too :)

Parwaz, I couldn't afford what that Junior will end up going for. There are other collectors who have big fat wallets that will go into a bidding war on it.

I'd rather have that green Miele as I have a rare Junior in excellent nick anyway (my profile pic)

Wow. Amazing. I'd imagine these would just be for collecting purposes really. Cant imagine the bearings or rubbers used would be in good condition sitting idle for a couple of decades haha

Like I said, someone got in there quickly, with an offer the seller couldn't refuse to end the auction early, so no chance for anyone else to get a look in at bidding for it. There was a Miele Uniq on as well the other day that ended early, sellers trying to get out of paying the final value fee I suppose. Why cant these people let the auctions run to the end, and give all interested parties a fair chance at winning the items.

This is what I would term the last of the best Meile cleaners. Although this one was fairly basic for Meile, it was still an exceptional quality cleaner. After this style ended, the quality dropped continually in line with the competition.

Because people sell things on Ebay to make money, not friends. Why would a seller care about who else might or might not be interested in buying?

The only thing which I understand the seller has done wrong is they have ended the auction under the terms "error in listing". My step-daughter does a lot of trading on Ebay and told me many times before that the rules of Ebay are such that anything cancelled due to listing errors was, at one time, to be immediately re-listed with the correct information in order to prove that the goods were not taken off sale due to a private offer being made. Now, there is nothing to stop the re-listing incorporating a new Buy It Now price which matches the offer made, because the transaction then takes place on the Ebay site still. The offering party simply has to visit the new auction, use the Buy It Now option. In this instance, I can see nothing which says the item was re-listed.

However, having looked on the Google myself just now, I note that immediately re-listing is no longer strictly necessary, I suppose because Ebay encourages sellers to edit their listings to amend any alleged errors. Whatever the case, my step-daughter claims that Ebay are far from stupid and are hot on the heels of any wrong-goings, so much so she's had auctions cancelled by Ebay where there were no real grounds for such, other than in her case the use of words which Ebay did not permit to be used in the listing title.

As regards the seller of the Miele, I think he or she is skating on very thin ice if they think Ebay are going to allow much more of this.

Yes Benny, and what a find - never used and in such a lovely green colour. I had to look through some youtube vids to find out how the variable power worked on it, as its not immediately obvious, and there is no switches on the hose handle. I believe this range ran from 1987 to 1995, but there is no information or user manuals for it on Miele's website now as its long obsolete.

I will be watching that Junior that Mr Parwaz highlighted

Ebay need to stop it happening. Its not fair on genuine bidders, and in the end, people will just think "I cant be bothered bidding on this in case someone buys it outside ebay"

If the seller didn't want to pay the Final Value Fees why didn't he just list it on Gumtree? People are taking advantage of Ebay to advertise their items then selling them to buyers who go in "via the back door" trying to say "Sell it to me for £120 and I'll collect tonight". I've got a good mind to report that seller to ebay and refer them to this thread, where V6JME admitted he has now got this cleaner.

There were things the seller could have done to act in a fair way. Given that the private offer made would never have exceeded the Buy It Now (or else that option would have been used instead), the B I N price could have been lowered and the sale made "on" Ebay.

Or they could have asked the offering party to make a bid and then ended the auction early by offering to sell to the highest bidder. Both of these methods are quite acceptable to Ebay.

Ebay won't of course care a dot about the "fairness" of other interested parties and how they may lose out, but they do take their own loss of revenue very seriously.

The buyer emailed this seller to end the auction early or exchange contact details and this will be recorded on Ebay mail system. I have put a report into Ebay about this seller and the item, which was "ended due to an error in listing". The seller has avoided paying ebay fees by selling outside ebay an item that was advertised through Ebay, and that's what I've reported him for. If Ebay want to contact me for any further details, I will refer them to this thread and in particular, reply #11
