Odd spots and squeaky motor

I was trying to clean up a Super J today, in the area of the power switch, cleaning selector/bag door area there are these spots of dirt or something. I don't know what it is, and I have tried a lot of tricks to get it off like a Magic Eraser, Windex, warm water and soap, an even Fantastik with bleach. I also tried lightly scraping it. But to no avail, the dirt still remains. I almost think its like blood? I don't know. Any suggestions?

I know its a 90s vac, but my Diplomat LX makes a squeak when the motor is spooling down. It squeaks at the very end of the spool down when the power is switched off. During normal operation the motor seems fine with no noticeable odd noises. A slight hum here and there but nothing major or odd yet. My childhood Diplomat made the same hum noise but MUCH louder hum noise near the end of its time with us.

However, on closer inspection of the motor, when I did a tear down of the machine, the front fan is a bit dinged up (I think the previous owner had a cat because the power head was full of cat hair). If I turn the motor with my hand it squeaks a bit, as if the bearings have lost oil, and there is no resistance in moving it with my hand. The armature does not have any play, like it does not move in any direction that it shouldn't (like left right, up down). So whats going on here? Is there anything preventative I can do to fix this?

Pop rivet a new 8mm bearing into the diplomat or either grease the one already in the machine. That will take care of the squeal at the end of the cycle.

On the Super J, it sounds like you have stains on the actual plastic. Some stains are very stubborn and will not come off. Without a picture, I doubt anyone would be able to help you out with a possible solution with that.

The sleeve bearing could also be getting a little on the dry side considering the vintage of the Super J. Pop the end cap off and lube the pad. Chris also gave you some good advice regarding the other bearing.

What kinda lube would you suggest? Would sewing machine oil seem to do the trick? Id did the trick with the bearings on the brush roll on the AP280 and PN5 I have. Thanks for your help?

If it is a brass sleeve bearing found at the other end of the SupJ, use oil. If it is a ball bearing with the black seals- use bearing grease, not oil. If you use oil, you will have a hot mess.

The Sup J is dirty, but the Diplomat is the one with the motor problem. I took the motor housing off just now, and put my ear up to various parts of the motor, sounds like it might be the brushes on the commutator. Looks like someone has been there before, 4 screws, all of them different, holding the motor cover on the motor.

I wondered about the brushes also, sounds like someone was in there playing.NG, that's not good.
