Nothing beams like a Laser...

^Actually, I used the basic bagged Argos Value upright recently as was pleasantly surprised. I was expecting a pile of rubbish, but it wasn't half bad. The hose was a bit naff and it was quite small, but it's performance was ok. Certainly on a par with my Mum's Electrolux Powerlite upright and far better than the Hoover Purepower's. I wouldn't touch the bagless one - nasty clogging filter mess! Having said that, I wouldn't touch any bagless vacuum lol.

Ooh, got have me some dyson! I like seeing the muck!

What is the suction at the hose like? I used a couple of these when I was younger, but no body had tools for them!
They are no turbo power! :)

You do realise, you could pick up more with another brand of vacuum and just empty out and examine the contents of the bag if you're really that bothered? But anyway, thats a discussion for another time. We don't do bagless in this house :P

Suction on the hose is certainly poor, but no worse than the Turbopower's hose suction. I'd also say that the Laser's tool setup is easier to use than the Turbo's as there is no pan converter. The setup is similar to the Moulinex Major with the slot on the head of the machine.

I'd say floor suction is possibly almost as strong as the Turbo's, but it obviously doesn't have the activator brushroll or adjustable height settings that the TP's had and therefore doesn't clean as well.

Haha! But that would waste good bags! :D

I liked the side sweepers on the laser, if I can remember it's plastic is more flexible compared to the TP, it shows stress marks but it isn't as brittle?

Moulinex master was my first project! Well, I sat and watches my dad unblock one he had picked up for me at work.. After begging him to let me take it home!

Moulinex Master blockages

That's interesting, I heard that too.

I never liked Goblin: too cheap 'n' nasty for me - and I tried one. It was a hard-bag red Commander, but couldn't suck the grit out the carpet.

No, Hoover was THE upright cleaner to remove grit. It's pity they're not what they were. Makes you wonder who the nut-jobs are that are running the vacuum cleaner division.

Rolls, I agree about Hoover being THE upright for carpet cleaning. However, the activator brushroll had a lot to do with that. The suction on the laser is pretty good, but let down slightly by and under performing brushroll. It's a very average vacuum, but deffo still worthy of a place in a collection

Look at the instruction manual where it says goblin spares - look on the bottom of that page, if I see right it says 4/96. That should be the proper date for the vacuum. It's a key thing for Goblin & MR vacs, the instructions books always have the date on.

Lovely laser! I remember them well, and Dad's Rio, which I got given when it was pretty much scrap! Is the upright as loud and ear-shatteringly high pitched as the Rio is?

Were did the lasers fit in with other bagged uprights of that era? I presume Hoover were on the TP1 and TP2 crossover period, Panasonic were churning out the same upright they do today, just with a 900w motor, Hitachi were around and was the Lux Boss sold as early as that? Struggling to remember what else would have been out, got the department store in my head but not clear enough to remember.

No, the Electrolux Boss started selling around 2000 but i'm sure this laser is around 1996, the time when Panasonics were as you said still churning out a better version of todays vac, hitachi were doing the powerhouses, Vax also sold uprights around this era, too & don't forget about Dysons, they released the Destijl around this time I think.

The Electrolux Boss was out in 2001 but under different guises with the "Minimite" model -this is really where the model numbers help rather than the name as they are tons of different "boss" models. Later in 2003, the first wave of Electrolux Boss successor models came out, the B3105, B3115 in yellow and blue.

Also see previous thread on here regarding these mini 2litre/2.5 litre dust bag fitted models http://www.vacuumland.org/cgi-bin/TD/TD-VIEWTHREAD.cgi?18538

Yours truly owned an Electrolux Boss B4111 in 2003. A brilliant cylinder vacuum cleaner and very much made in the same kind of layout as the Hoover Telios, another favourite cylinder vac of mine.

I used to own...

An Electrolux Minimite Superlite, we bought it new in 2001 for our caravan. After our last caravaning holiday in 2003 I took it out & kept it. Namely that was my first ever vacuum cleaner I owned, that's why the Electrolux name has a place in my heart. Can't remember what happened to it.

Talking of the Electrolux Bosses, my nan gave me her Photo Blue Boss Filtaire in 2008 & I only used it a handful of times, perhaps the best Electrolux I've ever used. Great brush roll, great tools, great suction.

These are my 2 fav Electroluxes, shamefully when we had our original Minimite Superlite bags were so difficult to source we ended up buying some from Wilkos & cutting them to fit.

The one you've sent a link there to the vacuum dust bags, VR is the one I knocked back for a Hoover Microspace. I loved that little Microspace - a U.S model I believe originally. Had it for a few years before selling it to a lady who needed it for her caravan. Also had an Electrolux 965 Minilite as Hi-Lo says.

Didn't ever like the main floor head that came with it though.

Before this cleaner, there were three black cylinder cleaners. All had a round press button in the middle and on the top of the range machine the button was also a dial for variable motor speed. The user would need to fold down the carry handle to one side then press down onto it to activate the automatic cordwinder.

Yep I remember that one well - it had a pesky filtration door that could fly off if it didn't lock down properly and a light grey variable suction control dial. Designed to mimic the wonderful and larger Mondo E and its upgraded variants with the slider suction control.

Talking of Mondo's...

Nan gave me her Electrolux Mondo Plus Cylinder in about 2005, she didn't like cylinders so I don't know why she bought it, but anyway she gave it to me & I loved it, despite the lack of Suction Power, should have been more. I've posted the link below. What was weird though normal Electrolux Mondo Bags didn't fit but the ones that Boss Cylinders used did!

It was my second favourite machine, after the Minimite Superlite. I like the fact that with the Mini you get 4 Proper Sized Extension Tubes, I guessed they wanted to sell the vacuum as one that you use as a second vacuum, ie above floor/stairs. Not for flooring.
