My whole collection now has evolved into NOS, Unused, mint vacuums, as I enjoy these most, I've had plenty of used ones, but have at times been very lucky to find these. In time, I will reveal them, and open them up for the first time, and share photos with all of you. More on that in the near future...How about you? Does anyone have these kinds, be it Hoover (my first choice), or any others? Thanks, Ron

Don't have any NIB vintage vacuums only some small kitchen appliances. As much as I always want to open them I can't bring myself to do it LOL

NOS Vacuums

I have two from the Hoover Vault that are concidered nos. I also have used the nos in my home. No children or pets. I want to use my nos vacuums and not just admire them in the box. That's just me, I know everyone looks at this a different way.

I also have a NIB green Compact C8...

Used to have a NIB 70's Premier Swivel Top (BOL model), but I sold it.

I have!

A BOL Premier swivel top that someone wanted, but I lost touch with them..SORRY!, if you will get back to me, im sure we can work out something.

New/mint

That's pretty much all I have. If it's not new or absolutely mint, I don't put it in my collection, for the most part. I don't leave things in the boxes, though.

KENKART

Your telling me!!!!!

I would do ANYTHING for a NIB compact. My life would be so complete with one!!!!!!

Nothing like a child hood memory, unused!

I once had an unused new in box vacuum...

Then I took it out of the box...

and used it...

It was a Dyson DC17.

:P

:D
Sadly no unused vintage vacuums here.

I have 3 Hoovers all of which were from the Hoover ault, only one has been used, I have a NIB BOL Premiere Upright, NIB Lux Olympia, and a NIB 100th Anniversary Windtunnel.

I prefer to keep mine unused, I do turn them on every so often, but I'll never let any dirt get into them

@kenkart
I'd love to find myself an NOS Royal 880 like yours!

Although I'd prefer mine to be a 1986 or 1987 model as it was the most advanced version (5.4 amp motor as opposed to the 3.0 amp motor yours has), as well as among the last before Royal overhauled the lineup of all of its classic metal uprights for mid-1987 (the 880 was replaced by the 886). After about September of 1986, the Royal decal appeared below the Adjust-O-Rite on the nozzle.

Because I don't have the room or the tools or the skills to take apart and renew an old used vac, these NOS or NIB vintage vacuums always interest me.

My question: does the lack of use of a decades-old machine create problems for the motors? I can understand how a brush-roll belt would need to be replaced after all these years of non-use, but are there other problems created by having a vac sit in "suspended animation" for so long? Most importantly, do the motors "dry up," so to speak?

@eurekaprince what can happen is that all the grease in the bearings can settle to the bottom of the bearing case, especially if the machine has been kept in a warm area.

Any time you start up a vacuum cleaner that hasn't been run in a long time, it's a good idea to "pulse" the machine quickly on and off a few times before letting the motor ramp to full speed, instead of just pushing the switch and "lettin' 'er rip." Because if the grease -has- settled, running it at full speed can tear up the bearings.

There is also the possibility that insulation on cords and other areas might be dry-rotted and brittle, and there may be a short somewhere, even inside where you can't see it. Testing the circuit with one of those thing-a-ma-jigs with the little clip-on leads and a light bulb will indicate this sort of problem.

Then there's also the possibility that critters may have inhabited the interior of the machine. Turning it on, if it's an upright, could make a real mess if a dead rodent is inside the brushroll housing or fan case housing, or a terrible odor if something crawled into the bag (of either a tank or upright) and then couldn't get out.
