I know this is the wrong area, but my Kirby G5 hasn't been used in awhile and when it was used it was ran at max power. Is this a bad thing?

When we mean a while, we generally mean 10 plus years.


When I got my 1929 hoover 575, which had been used up until the 50s, I let it go full speed without thinking. Purred like a kitten!

Of course I wont do that again.

I have a new in box

1980's Thermax vacuum. I love it and I do plan to use it someday. lol
The only time it has ever seen use was at the last convention.
I wish I could find the ultra rare paper bag option for it.
YES Thermax did have paper and cloth bags if you didn't want to use the water!!! I called Thermax and asked if I could find one and the lady said " oh, honey we haven't made that in 25 years".

Your G5 will be just fine. I assure you unless it was sitting outside or something, it most definitely wont kill it.

NOS unused 50s Kirby with all the attachments & everything, all the boxes, papers, packing material and so on. Plug it in once a year and unwind the cord etc. but otherwise it's a prop. I think it's going to end up in a museum!

Haha Brandon, yes that's it! Looks exactly like that. I'm still tempted to break it in and start using the attachments for things like demothing but I also want to keep it perfect.

Wow, that really is a fabulous Kirby. I don't recall seeing it when it was first posted. The odd thing about it is, perfect that it is, it has a replacement cord on it. The original cord was gray with red plugs. The "male" plug has the same logo on it that's on the bag. That red cord is from the Classic-III era (1976-79).

Not to say I'd turn my nose up at it, it's just kinda strange that the cord is not original if this machine has been kept packed away all these years.

That was my doing! We did buy the cord new from Kirby because originally we planned to use it. We still have the original gray cord, but it's got a little dry rot from age, so to help preserve it it's carefully rolled up separately.
