Yesterday I hosted my fourth annual mini-meet. In attendance were Will, Kenny, Chad, Jay, Paul, Mitch, Jacob, Jess, and Weston. I've learned over the years is that while it might hosted at my house, it is a team effort. Will helped re-arrange my collection two weeks before the meet, while Jay hosted and set up the lunch, Paul and Mitch had table duties, and Kenny and Chad contributed by setting up my garage and driveway and brought machines/bags/attachments looking for new forever homes. Here are some photos prior to my guests arrivals.

More photos of North Texas Mini-Meet

Here's a shot of Kenny who drove all the way from Tulsa with Chad to enjoy the pleasures of vacuuming with highly vintage Sunbeam Dual Deluxe with optional Turbine brush. As you can tell he was impressed with it's cleaning ability.

Another magical moment at the mini-meet

Paul traveled with his partner Mitch all the way from Chicago only to be shocked by operating Lewyt Electronic Upright with the highly exclusive Powered Beater Sweeper. Paul had ignored the warnings of fellow collectors by not grounding his belt buckle and received a little shock and awe in it's operation. In case Paul had met his untimely destiny we were ready to bring him back to life by throwing him in the shower with a Sunbeam toaster.

What happens in Euless...

Mitch was caught admiring the Westinghouse coffee percolator at the free table and was heard to say "They don't have prices like this in Chicago". Brad, the Singer c-4 was part of the Amarillo haul that Will and I went on in July, and yes, it's even prettier in person...and sucks almost as well as the Dual Deluxe!

No flu shots, but there are clinics...

Will is seen servicing the cordreel on his Electrolux Silverado. The tension was high in the room as we watched him extract the cordreel from the aft section of the vacuum with the skill of a large animal veterinarian.

KIrby on the operating table...

After Will's successful work on the Electrolux he fixed the handle spring on Jess's Kirby Classic III. After this success the gathered townfolk cheered and enjoyed light afternoon beverages before heading to a Ft Worth vacuum cleaner shop.

Smores by the fire fill me with....

Upon returning from the vacuum shop with stops for thrifting all the way, we enjoyed dinner in the Hoover Room and then retired to the rear patio fire pit and made some smores. Jacob, Chad, Kenny, Paul, and Mitch stand in stunned silence as one attendee (off camera) had consumed one too many smores and had given in to interpretive dancing. Or at least we thought it was, in the absence of a licensed neurologist to inform us otherwise.

Gosh I'm so sorry we missed it Sean, it looks like you all had a blast! Of course, I had a good time this weekend with my troop as well. Glad to see something modern giving those carpets a good clean (; If I had been there, I would have brought along something new as well, something that starts with a "D" (:

Nice! & Rare!

Great vacs! All nice and some would be at the top of any list of rarest of the rare.I would start the list with--green Lewyt Electronic,Hoover Convertible with cordwinder(rare runner up Hoover would be DAM with headlight),Sunbeam with turbine brush, green Singer canister(I think 1 year only-only one with this body style-only Singer vac with this color & matching green atts).
Could one of the Sears be so rare that it came from a warehouse in TN?After all---'some of my exes go to Texas----'.

Origins of collection...

Hi Jimmie,
Thanks for your comments on MY FIRST THREAD! None of the Kenmores came from Tennessee...one came from Scott, one from Westen, one from a thriftstore in my hometown which I found with Robb, and the lightweight upright came from Amarillo. And yes I have a non-powerdrive DAM with headlight, it's in the DAM lineup in my driveway, and that was a gift from a good friend who bought it new when she was a stewardess for Braniff!

Vacuum Friends

Just wanted to add my two cents to Sean's Mini-Meet. I left Sean's house rejuvenated and am finally finishing the newsletter that will archive the events from the VCCC Convention last June.
At Sean's the lunch and dinner conversations took tangents from vacuums to our diverse careers to our generational differences and back to vacuums, then to our upbringings to electronic and pipe organs and back to vacuums, then to technology and many other topics and then back to vacuums. Sean put a lot of thought and energy into the weekend, even arranging a visit with the top Riccar-selling dealer in Texas. The store manager showed what he thought were the best features of each of several brands, and spending time in a vacuum store was like catnip for most of us. It truly was a great event and reminded me that there are great people all over who love vacuums. Thanks to Sean and all who were able to attend.

mini-meet

“catnip for most of us” I love it because that’s exactly what it was. Brian letting us rummage through his storeroom was fantastic. I pulled out a blue Kenmore twin fan and an attachment set for the gray Electrolux upright that matches the Silverado. The conversation and food were excellent. Sean was funny as always! I’m still laughing thinking about some of the things he said this weekend. For those of you who attend the conventions you know what happens when Sean and John Long get together with their jokes! The laughter never stops! Sean is always so quick with come backs it leaves people like me in the dust.

Seriously, Thank you Sean for putting together such a wonderful mini-meet. Thanks to both you and Jay for providing the meals. Looking forward to the next one. Kenny
