Non Genuine dust bags....opinions ??

Help Support VacuumLand:

I've had 3 or 4 'scrap' Miele S5 vacuums and every one has been used with a bojack bag, or no bag at all! All have needed the motor stripping, fan washing, then a full overhaul and their back to normal again!

I try to use genuine bags in everything, although if I have a pack of non genuine bags i nthe shed, or cant get genuine ones then I use those.

I have a few brand new old stock H4 and H1 packs in the loft, won't use those yet, will work through my stock of genuine/bojack bags first, the machines dont get heavily used enough to really warrant new genuine bags for one or two uses!

My Miele now though (and my mum) get a brand new service box whenever they want. Normally lasts a year anyway, and I can get them cheaper from trade suppliers so it's no big deal!

Of course they'd say that...

Any manufacturer of any product that has any consumables associated with it is going to specify the use of only THEIR brand of consumables in order to maximize their profits. In some instances, the manufacturer will actually sell the item at a loss in order to make their profit on consumables that are sold at an extreme markup. Ink jet printers are sold this way. That's why you can often buy a whole new printer for pretty close to the cost of a set of ink cartridges.

Whether you use third-party bags or not, be glad they exist because that competition keeps the OEMs honest. They can't afford to charge too much of a premium for their consumables because the competition would eat them alive.

Certain "name" brands are often used used under license for products in market segments where that company doesn't compete. The fact that I've only seen Arm and Hammer belts and bags at Walmart leads me to believe Arm and Hammer doesn't actually manufacture those products. The trademarks have most likely been licensed by Walmart, which then shops the production to competing manufacturers to get the lowest bid. I would also not be at all surprised if least some OEMs aren't doing the same thing with their own consumables.

Absolutely true.

But, at the bag plant. #2, the quality of the filter paper was exceptional. I learned that it cam from the Poconos...not far from me, as I live in the Wyoming Valley, the backside of the Pocono Mountain Region.
I know that HOOVER also made certain bags for other makes.
I also feel that the "new" genuine bags, (the white paper) is not nearly as good as the green or gray paper bags. Of course, they are made 'elsewhere'...{outside the U.S.A.}
