NIB Royal Power Team

VacuumLand – Vintage & Modern Vacuum Enthusiasts

Help Support VacuumLand:

I bought my first PowerTank from Marty Rocha back in 2005, the LA convention! Its the light blue one with the HMI P/N and the FQ style cuffed hose end and curved upper wand. I love that machine! I was so excited to finally have one of those, and it still brings much joy to use, but there's something to be said about these later models. I got, from Alex Braun, a nice red one like this, but a little older with the speed control on the hose handle. Also a true joy to use, and a much more aggressive carpet experience.

Manual and/or parts list for Royal 4700 Power Team canister

My dad picked up one of these canister vacuums at a thrift store for $5. I'm looking for parts information because his unit does not have the wand and power nozzle, and he wants me to find these parts. I'd love to get a copy of a manual so that I can see part numbers and how-to information.

On that note, I will make a separate posting about this next topic, but I'm trying to figure out if parts from a Royal 4250 canister will fit my dad's 4700 canister. I have come across a model 4250 that looks just like the 4700 canister, but Dirt Devil (who currently owns Royal) indicates the parts are not switchable...but they did not offer part numbers. I'll make a separate posting related to 4700 vs 4250, because the subject drift title may catch your attention.

Can you switch parts between Royal 4700 and Royal 4250?

I'm trying to figure out if parts from a Royal 4250 canister vacuum will fit my dad's 4700 canister. I have come across a model 4250 that looks just like the 4700 canister, but Dirt Devil (who currently owns Royal) indicates the parts are not switchable...but they did not offer part numbers.

If you know, and/or if you have parts list for the 4250 and/or the 4700, then I will be grateful to obtain this.

I've always liked the design of those machines, even though I've never seen one in the flesh. I especially like the 'saddlebag' onboard tool storage. Very functional. If I didn't already have six Electrolux canisters, I might put one on my want list. There's a blue one on eBay right now that's priced fairly reasonably except that it's missing the hose, wand and power nozzle, making it sort of useless.

One of my dream machines!

My dream vacuum would be to find a NOS Royal 4700 or 4750 still in the box. The last 4600 or 4650 with the Panasonic power nozzle would be neat to. I did find a NOS 4600 made in 1993 with the Filter Queen power nozzle bought on eBay about 3 years ago for $150 and re-sold for $900! I also bought and re-sold a NOS 4150 at a pretty decent profit but my dream machines still evade me. I have a 4700 my grandma gave me over 11 years ago that she bought new in Jan. of 2000. She gave me the original user manual and she even kept the sales receipt that was for around $550 I believe. I love it and have restored it to like new condition with many NOS parts. I have also stockpiled a number of NOS parts for it and probably have over 100 bags as I think Royal quit producing them but Envirovac still makes them but I prefer the Royal bags. It's unfortunate there are pretty much no parts available now but they are pretty robust so break downs are seldom.

Love these

I do come and admire this post every once in a while, I've gained a love for these. My dream ones are a 4600, or a 4650 because I like the speed control and switch on the handle rather than the speed control on the tank like the 4700. I've seen the dealer demonstration for one of these, and it really is very impressive. I'll be on the lookout for a 4600 preferably from 1997 (on a budget). I'm just weary on finding one with a good motor, I've heard too many bad stories on motor work with these.

They are pretty reliable in my experience

Garrett, I think by now if the vacuum is still going strong after over 20 years you should be good. I have bought and refurbished probably about a dozen of these now and they all for the most part have run very well except for maybe a noisy bearing on one or two. The motor change isn't usually terrible (I did have one 4650 that put up a horrible fight) if you have to do it. On a NOS unit you could be taking a chance but I think probably a pretty small percentage of these had premature motor failures. These tanks have been out of production for almost 20 years now and it is not uncommon to see working units on eBay pretty frequently. The weakest link on these tanks IMO was the plug that connects the upper wand to the handle. These plugs frequently loose continuity causing the connection to arc and melt. If you catch it before to much damage is done you can often save them by cutting a small groove in the handle plug just behind the existing one. This pushes the male and female connections just a little closer and will usually compensate for the loss of connection caused from years of wear.
